This was my first bed&breakfast experience and it couldn't have been better. We stayed in Viola's Attic Room which is the best one in the house because it comes with a fireplace. The fireplace kept us warm throughout the entire night. In each room, there's also a hot tub jacuzzi which was perfect after a day of hiking. This B&B is only miles away from Devil's Lake. The couple (Sharon & Jon) that runs the B&B were the sweetest. They were quite accommodating to our schedule. We also met this other wonderful couple staying at the B&B and it was such a great experience to hear their stories from back in the hay-day. The best part was the breakfast. I was not expecting there to be so much food. I felt like a princess in a palace. The table was set beautiful with all the best homecooked breakfast items you can imagine. Just wonderful. Because this experience went so well, I have decided that whenever I travel, I will stay at a B&B whenever possible.

Had to attend an evening meeting in Baraboo, so decided to make it into a mini-vacation. Found Gollmar Guest House on the web and made a reservation. What a great place! It was comfortable, homey, and QUIET. I loved having my own bathroom, altho didn't take advantage of the huge jacuzzi. John and Sharon, the hosts, are so nice, fun to talk with, and welcoming. If you are into circus lore they have all sorts of interesting tales and old papers from the Gollmars, who were circus owners and Ringling cousins. The breakfast involved: rhubarb cake, french toast, cheese omelet, coffee, fruit----so delicious and satisfying I didn't eat lunch until 3pm! The owners were nice enough to let me stay part of the next day, so I was able to stroll downtown and shop (good antique shops and a terrific independent bookstore), and then come back for a quick nap before heading home. Sadly, it was raining, so I didn't go to Parfrey's Glen, but I know I'll be back for another mini-vacation.

I went to Baraboo to visit the International Crane Foundation, and luckily found the Gollmar Guest House. The innkeepers let me check in early, made me feel very welcomed, lent me a straw hat because of the hot sunny weather, and served an amazing breakfast of French toast stuffed with cream cheese, eggs, fresh fruit, bacon, and great coffee. Like the earlier reviewer, I didn't eat lunch until late afternoon. If you're interested in Frank Lloyd Wright, the innkeepers are a fount of information about him. The Gollmar Guest House is close to downtown Baraboo, but is on a quiet, leaf-filled street. If you're in the Baraboo/Spring Green area, I highly recommend this comfy B&B.
