Joined Greater Iowa when we were looking to purchase a truck. We were at the dealership and the best percentages came from GICU. These guys didn't know us from Adam and Eve, but approved us immediately and trust me our credit wasn't that great. We felt so good about working with them we bought a second car through them. We travel extensively and were late on a payment or two over the years and they were very helpful and people friendly. I can understand people have bad experiences with institutions, especially ones that deal with dollars, but the next time you are about to crap on any credit union stop and think. In 2007 big banks choked Americans for BILLIONS in bailouts. Also remember none of them were credit unions.

There have been some shady credit unions popping up across the country. I've seen them in my home town and when I came in to open a checking account here, I saw the same issues. The Greater Iowa Credit Union used to be called ISU Credit Union but they are not the same company. I thought I'd look up my old account from college and they put zero effort into finding it then proceeded to sign me up for a $5 a month checking, claiming my credit wasn't good enough to get free checking. (Divorce, no explanation necessary, the ex went wild with the credit cards, but this was six years ago!) I never gave them permission to run my credit and after the clerk said this she sat there with my credit report on her screen and proceeded to tell me the intimate details of my negative credit (again, thanks to the ex). Insulting, demeaning, and totally unnecessary. Then she brought me a mastercard debit card. Mastercard is the worst debit card. They never investigate fraudulent claims so if someone gets a hold of your card number or a merchant makes an unauthorized charge, you're doomed. Even if your card is stolen, Mastercard will hold you liable for $500 to $1,000 of the charges made by whomever stole your card. Visa doesn't. Visa sides with the cardholder and never holds you liable if your card is stolen. I left without opening an account because the clerk broke four banking laws in the very long 90 minutes she held me captive. She must have thought I just fell off the turnip truck. She pushed a document across the desk at me that claimed because of the Patriot Act she was allowed to use my personal information any way she liked. Again, that's a lie and a pretty crappy rendition of the actual part of the Patriot Act that concerns identity theft and banking. Stay away from this credit union. They are run like a credit card company rather than a bank and they're using some pretty shady business practices. I sat here for 90 minutes because I was in shock and speechless and it just kept getting worse until I finally asked her to stop and give me my money back.

The new upgrade for mobile banking is terrible. I've followed all the steps and I constantly get a request for access code. It's not working, wish you'd have left it as it was.

I've been a customer here for 17 years. We're about to close our business and personal accounts due to their inconsistent customer service and declining Quicken service.

I've had numerous experiences with GICU, most of them were poor at best. They never work with you for anything and in fact overcharge you a lot of the time. I've never had more dificulty with day to day transactions. It turns out they always process all of the debits first, then all of the credits. They may be an awesome lending institution, but their daily transactions end up costing more than what they should.
