Great guy. Very knowledgeable. Delightfully eccentric in his approach to life and bicycles. Could he (inadvertently) come off as a little bit brusque? Perhaps but it is worth. LOVES bicycling and everything to do with it.

Extremely informative and great to deal with. I went in looking for a bike to accommodate my size expecting to spend a couple thousand dollars. After all was said and done a bike was ordered for about 1/3 of what I expected. Service is great!

Terrible customer service! I brought my son's glider bike in a few weeks ago to have one of the wheels repaired. The gentlemen at that time fixed it no problem. I brought the bike back in with the same problem plus the other wheel was loose and needed some attention today. This time another man was there and was so mean! I explained the issues I was having and was willing to leave the bike behind so he can have time to check it out. He told me that his shop wasn't going to spend another minute on this bike and that I "just need to put the bike in my car and never bring it back." I was holding my 1 year old daughter, the bike and had my 2 year old son with me and he literally pushed us out the door. I tried asking him if I should buy new wheels or if the bike was really unrepairable but he just kept telling me to put the bike in the car and leave. I was stunned. I had to laugh because the situation and his behavior was so ludicrous! In an Amazon and online buying world I could not believe the way I was treated. Between my husband and I, we have 4 bikes plus the glider for my son. Just think of all the eventual purchases and bike repairs we will need for all that gear. I will NEVER spend a single dollar in that store again. He just lost a ton of potential business. I am very loyal to stores with good customer service and am willing to spend the extra cash for it. On a positive note I immediately drove down the street to Col Cycling on Merchants Row and a very nice gentleman, Scott was very helpful and repaired my son's bike in no time. I found my new neighborhood bike shop.

This place is the best bike shop in Vermont bar none. I have been biking for 30 years and been to many different stores. There are things that look fine to a newbie (chains, tires, wheel condition, etc.) that most place will let slide because the customer doesn't notice or will sell you something you don't need. The owner here is very knowledgeable and will take the time to get your repair just right. Don't go to a quickie repair or yuppie bike seller if you are a serious cyclist or just care about the condition of your bike. If you are buying new, the management here is the right choice to look at the options and help your get the best bike for your money.

Q: Having moved to the Midwest, why would someone pack their expensive Italian carbon fiber bike along for a trip back to Vermont for routine service at Green Mountain Cyclery in Rutland? A: Perhaps for the same reason people drive cross-country for life-saving medical treatments: to get the absolute best care available. I read a negative Google Review of GM Cyclery with curiosity, wondering if they’re writing about the same shop. Yes, it’s a relatively small shop, thus an obscure part might need to be acquired. Yet at the same time, Phil Beauchamp is one of an elite group of proprietors who DEEPLY understands the minutia associated with cycling. During my recent visit, I was stunned to learn of an eminent component failure on my bike that could have had catastrophic results, if left unresolved. I’d dropped my bike off with GM Cyclery’s owner, Phil, for a minor adjustment. When I returned to pick it up, he’d thoroughly inspected and adjusted the entire bike, having gone above & beyond the simple adjustment I’d asked of him. And he did this at no extra charge. Amazing! Certainly, other shops might have more smooth-talking sales staff. Even if they’re well-meaning, I’ll take GM Cyclery’s no-nonsense candor any day, because my life can literally depend on it.
