Story

Harriman State Park is a state park in eastern Idaho, United States. It is located on an 11000acre wildlife refuge in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and is home to an abundance of elk, moose, sandhill cranes, trumpeter swans, and the occasional black or grizzly bear. Two-thirds of the trumpeter swans that winter in the contiguous United States spend the season in Harriman State Park. The land was deeded to Idaho for free in 1977 by Roland and W. Averell Harriman, whose insistence that the state have a professional park managing service helped prompt the creation of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation in 1965. The park opened to the public in 1982. It is located in Fremont County, 3mi south of Island Park, Idaho. Henry's Fork, a fly-fishing stream, winds through the meadows of Harriman State Park. In winter, many of its roads and trails are groomed for cross country skiing. The park is located within a geological feature called a caldera, the Henry's Fork Caldera.

Went cross-country skiing there. About 2 feet of snow, well packed and groomed. For a small $5.00 fee you can ski through some of the most beautiful scenery around. Lots of water birds, beautiful wide trails, or if you prefer take a second on single-track trails through the trees. The warming yurt, provided by the Idaho Falls Nordic Ski Patrol is a wonderful lunch stop. I highly recommend this adventure.

Very nice and big state park. Lots of trails for you to explore the area. I went in winter to do some cross country skiing. Mostly easy to moderate trails, not to bad for beginners. Plenty of warming hunts, and you can see swans and ducks down by the river.

Such a beautiful park to visit in all seasons of the year. We helped with the Haunts of Harriman lay October. It was decorated so cute and they had plenty of candy for all the kids that came! It's the safest environment for trick or treaters! Definitely will be back next Halloween!!
