Too good to only give four stars but five might be a little high. Service was fantastic. I'm guessing our server was the owner if not, that place is blessed. Food was really good and plentiful. Only little thing was the BBQ sauce was not as spicy as I remember from twenty years ago. Will definitely go back.

We hit a few BBQ joints on our KC trip and this one may have been the best. It had that "local hangout" vibe, the ambiance was off the charts. The food? It was even different than the other spots, it had that real heavy smoke you get from pit barbecue. If I lived next to this place I'd be broke and weigh 600lbs. It's that good! Ribs and burnt ends highly recommended.

Great find in Southern KC!  We have lived in KC for 20+ years and are big barbeque fans. We wanted to try somewhere we'd never been and overall everyone was very impressed with Hayward's. We had dinner on a Friday night around 8 and sat outside on their patio. The restaurant isn't huge but big enough for their clientele, plus it wasn't crowded when we were there. The server was very pleasant and when asked, he recommended we try a variety platter since it was our first time. We tried almost all of their meats and were particularly impressed with the burnt ends, the ribs and the smoked sausage. The beans and fries (regular and sweet potato) were delicious as well. If you're looking for tasty barbeque in a relaxed setting, Hayward's is a great place to go!

I had the variety platter for one.  It consisted of burnt ends, ribs, and sausage, along with two sides. I chose slaw and cheesy corn. There was enough for two meals I took half of it home.  The meats were perfectly smoked the cheesy corn was rich and cheesy and the slaw had a sweet and crunchy taste to it.

The meats are very good.. sauce is below average. KC masterpiece has them beat. And I'm a true BBQ fan. Would have been 5 Stars but we had poor service. No silverware. No refills ECT.
