I made a reservation to book an inexpensive economy vehicle for a 24 hour rental on Friday, the 31st of march 2017. The associate's name over the telephone was Matt. I was very clear that I needed the vehicle for Monday night through Tuesday morning, for a 24 hour period of time. Over the telephone I was very clear that I was 24 years old. The associate Matt informed me that there would be a 27$ surcharge as I am a young driver. Because he was matching a rate from a web page I agreed to pay the extra 27$. I was then very clear that my form of payment would be a debit card as I do not use credit. Matt said that this was fine. I had to go in person with the paper copy of the online rate. At this time I assured Matt that my payment form was a debit card. I have had issues using a debit card in the past with other companies, so I was extremely informative on this matter as to ease any complications of using a debit card. Today, the third of Monday, I went to the Hertz rental building to pay for and rent the vehicle. The office was staffed by a single individual named Reed, who was trying to simultaneously assist up to 5 customers. Not only was this office short staffed, after waiting my turn in line I was told that there is no way a 24 year old driver can rent a vehicle using a debit card. I informed Reed of my conversation with Matt, the "manager," to reserve the vehicle. He said that Matt was outside and I could speak to him when he entered the building. After a good 30 minute wait, Matt denied any remembrance of our conversation and in an unapologetic tone informed me that corporate policy does not allow debit card rentals for persons under 25. I then asked if there was any sort of manual override that a manager can use, to which Matt informed me that Reed was the manager! Neither of them had any interest in solving the problem. They said they were "deeply sorry for the inconvenience," and proceeded to repeat their corporate language to me on auto-pilot. TLDR; do not waste your time with this Hertz rental office. They are clearly under-staffed and under-trained in the field of business. Their associates seem to be caught up in over promote, under deliver business practices. They would rather make bookings and reservations to look good to their corporate bosses than actually provide good and competitive customer services. I must now find a way to go 300 miles for a job/relocation interview without a vehicle. It's too bad Google forces me to give 1 star, I would rather give zero.

My rental experience was great from the first call to the return of the automobile. Exceptionally cooperative and pleasant employees, and the car just as I had requested. Will be coming back for sure
