About

Hickory Lane is situated in the heart of the Fairmount neighborhood. It's where Great Food and Great Service collide.

Story

Hickory Lane American Bistro's cuisine is founded in exceptional ingredients prepared with expert techniques. Hickory Lane will offer nightly dinner and weekend brunch in a casually elegant space in the Art Museum/Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Hickory Lane is ideal for a quick bite, leisurely meal or an exceptional memory. Hickory Lane's menu will change constantly to capture seasonal and exceptional ingredients.

Great food deserves great drink and now Hickory Lane offers both with a short but well rounded wine list that is available by the glass, carafe or bottle. The beer list always hovers around 15 selections from around the world with a focus on local craft beers. Spirits are the heart and soul of the bar at Hickory Lane. The spirits are selected for their wonderfully different qualities and their applications for making fun and soulful interpretations of classic pre-prohibition era cocktails like Martinis, Manhattans, Sazeracs and punches.

Located across from the historic Eastern State Penitentiary on the corner of Fairmount and Corinthian Ave, the restaurant has a full bar with a carefully selected beer and wine list, as well as, classic cocktails using the finest of spirits.

I came for brunch around 5:00 on a Saturday afternoon but was told brunch is only served before 330. (That was my fault for not finding out beforehand). The service is slow. My waiter was inattentive....he never introduced himself or checked on me. A kind woman with glasses and brown hair (not sure if she was the manager) made up for it by telling me what the specials were and getting the check for me when I asked. I ordered a veggie burger and wasn’t impressed. Sorry, but I couldn’t finish it. (Full disclosure: The morning star brand black bean burgers that you can find in the frozen food aisle of any supermarket taste better than this place’s $14 “veggie” burger.) I ate my fries, paid my bill, and left. The other food looks great, though. I would probably come here again, but for brunch and only if I was in the neighborhood. Not going out of my way again.

I made the mistake of going here for dinner, and should have known it would be bar food. My fiancé had the steak and it was great; but I had a $17 burger that was the driest, blandest, smallest, most boring burger I have ever tasted. McDonald's is more savory, and I hate McDonald's. I gave it 2 stars because I liked the steak; but the service is slow, the seating is uncomfortable and there is nothing impressive about this place.

One of my local go-tos for brunch. Great food and service. Outdoor seating in nice weather. Good for groups but inside is a little small - you'll be very close to other tables. Bartender makes great bloody Mary's!

Friendly staff and very tasty food, my one criticism is they brought out toast without any butter. Poor planning to assume the average diner wouldnt want butter for their toast.
