Story

Hickory Tavern is our classic American story of how a couple of us guys, who didn't like their options, built something that became bigger than we ever dreamed possible. See, we wanted to hang out in a place that let us watch the sports we wanted to watch, have a couple of cold beers, eat great food and get great service. But when we looked around, it just seemed like nobody could manage to put it all together. Never being the types to settle for something that wasn't quite what we wanted, we invented something new. We created a social gathering spot that is driven by events and is centered around lively bars. It's a place that serves great food and has a passion for sports, entertainment and good times! It had everything we loved and then some, and we named it - Hickory Tavern.

Horribly overpriced! Surprising since this is just your typical, pedestrian, rubber stamped sports bar. Save some bucks and go a block North to Chili's or downtown Holly Springs for a local tavern or anywhere else. The fish tacos are about the only thing on the menu less than $12... for lunch! Also, I am getting sick of places with 30 plus TVs. That said, service is pretty decent and they have a nice outdoor seating area.

I was so excited to try this place , especially since they looked like a good spot to watch football on the patio. Went in today for the first time at 1 pm and the patio was closed to a bridal shower ?! There were tables empty not being used ,yet you close your whole patio at prime time lunch time / ACC football??! After that settled in (still hasn't) the hostess sat us at the smallest tall table for 4.... After that I looked at the menu and saw the $15 French dip sandwich! No thanks! We went next door to firehouse and got a sandwich for half the price and was able to sit outside. Not a good first start for me , I may change my review if I give it another chance and actually eat the food but the initial first impression was very bad!

Today was our first time eating at a Hickory Tavern and it will not be our last visit. The menu offers a great mix of items to select from and the atmosphere in the restaurant is festive but not loud. I had the 12 oz New York strip with the house greens and sweet potato fries. The seasoning on the steak was perfect. I ordered my steak medium rare and one end of it was overdone but still juicy. I mentioned it to the waitress and she immediately offered to bring another steak out but I told her that it was still juicy and that I did not need another one. Before long a gentleman named Justin came out with a perfectly cooked steak. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. Mistakes are an inevitable part of life and how we handle them says more about us than the fact that we made the mistake in the first place. We will be returning very soon.

Update: I've been a handful of times since my review. The food is consistently on point. Today we had the best and fastest service to date. Matt was our server and he asks you to put a ketchup bottle at the edge of your table to signal him. He said it's so he doesn't bother you when you don't need him. Worked well for us! Brand new place in town and just opened this week. The food was really good and the beer selection was ok. They had many to choose from but the selection wasn't as impressive. The place was busy and staff seemed to be all over but it seemed to take a long time to get our food. But when it arrived it was hot and tasty. The atmosphere is loud so it might not be a good place if you're trying to have a conversation. We were there to celebrate a birthday and found it difficult to chat but that is largely due to being at a long table rather than a square or round. It was booming even before the entertainment started. They have events. The night I went was 80's night and at 9:30 they had live entertainment. The group was really good. I'll definitely go back!

Went for Friday lunch. My shrimp and grits were very good. Wife and daughter had a burger. One with French fries and the other with sweet potato fries. All was good and we are ready to go back for more.
