My favourite museum in DC by far. It has some of the most beautiful artifacts from the days of Imperial Russia as well as some French relics from a distant era. You feel as if you're taking a step back in time with this place, and you just can't bring yourself to leave. Also, the gardens are lovely in spring and summer.

Expect to spend at least 3 hours on the indoor collections. I did not get to explore the outdoor gardens or temporary exhibit. The price is a suggested donation of $10 for students, $15 for seniors and $18 for adults. The cafe was decent with a limited selection of pastries and pre-made snacks. The mansion and hour-long guided tour were excellent with photo opportunities and a knowledgeable docent. The permanent French, English, and Russian collections of art, historic artifacts, and dinnerware were even more beautiful than the gorgeous architecture and estate. March is the perfect season to visit the greenhouse because a large variety of orchids were in full bloom. You can get off the metro at Van Ness station and walk about 15 minutes, but the sidewalk ends a couple blocks before arrival.

Fascinating glimpse into the world of the rich art collector. A livable house filled with rare treasures, as opulent in detail as Hearst Castle but designed on a more human scale and with a more discerning collection. Beautifully designed gardens with a great variety of relaxing, intimate spaces. Wonderful profusion of orchids in greenhouse. Anyone who enjoys French furniture, Russian jewelry, icons, and paintings, or mid-century fashions will find plenty to enjoy. Plan on at least half a day to absorb what's here.

I've been here 4 or 5 times, bringing new people with me every time I visit. A sure hit with your female friends--rock crystal chandeliers, malachite tables, art objets galore plus antique furniture, wonderful grounds, greenhouses full of orchids, a Japanese garden, jewelry and more.

A truly amazing place. The history of three Post heiress was interesting. Even in winter the garden and greenhouse were beautiful. The staff and volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable. Will have to visit again in spring.
