I really enjoyed seeing the ships and learning about the Maritime History of San Francisco. The main museum is free and a couple of blocks up. There is more history in the indoor museum, but the pier has actual ships you can walk around and explore. For a history and sailing buff like me it was like heaven on earth, but my wife was not as impressed. She enjoyed seeing the ships but was not as enthralled with the inner workings as I was. I have a Federal Parks Pass, so we got in free. I would have paid the entry fee, but recommend small children and wives may lose interest quickly. For vehicle enthusiast, they have many resorted vehicles on the ferry boat with some great history.

Great place to visit especially if you have the annual national parks pass which grants you free entrance. The historical boats are one of a kind.

A very original floating museum. It's a great place to visit and spend your weekend and kids love it! Kids and militar service members can get it for free.

The ships are very much treated like a park instead of ships. There was little information about them and access was heavily restricted. The ships were cool but I wouldn't recommend paying to go here if you don't have a national parks pass.

Great interpretive exhibits for children to teach them about maritime history, and a lot of fascinating museum ships and displays.
