Story

J.Timothy's Taverne was established in 1988. Situated on the same property as the old Cooke's Tavern at 143 New Britain Ave in Plainville, CT, it has grown to be one of central Connecticut's finest casual theme restaurants. The building dates back to the year 1789, and was always a favorite stop for travelers along the Old College Highway. For over 225 years the Taverne has opened its doors to all and has hosted and shared many very special events. Today, J.Timothy's Taverne continues the tradition that Cooke's Tavern started many years ago as being one of Connecticut's favorite gathering places. J.Timothys fare consists of everything from appetizers and sandwiches, to steaks, seafood, chicken, many other favorites and of course, our award-winng chicken wings! It boasts many different private dining rooms to accommodate groups of all sizes.

Best restaurant in CT. Historic building with amazing food and service. Great beers on tap. Tavern area is upbeat and classic. Dining rooms are nice for both a casual meal and special occasion. And this is all coming from a 6'8" reviewer who has to duck under just about every support beam in the place! Always make a stop when I'm in the area. This year I enjoyed a frosty pint of Fuzzy Baby Ducks IPA with an order of their awesome "dirty" wings (twice fried). Highly recommend the Three Little Pigs sandwich! Tender breaded pork chop wrapped in smoked ham and bacon with cheese on a pretzel roll.

First time visit last night. The place was packed but service was still great. Very interesting place in a historical setting. Food was amazing, we got the "big salad" and an order of dirty buffalo wings. The bourbon cocktails were very tasty as well. Will definitely be back!

Every single time we come here, we leave completely satisfied, I've never had a bad experience here! Today we came in and it was very packed. It was a 30 minute wait for a table, and the bar and upstairs area were completely full. After waiting about 3 minutes, the manager approached us to let us know a couple at the bar just paid their tab and was getting ready to leave, which was above and beyond and absolutely amazing because we were starving. Obviously the wings are their ace in the whole, and their drink menu is extremely satisfying. J Timothy' s is a staple of CT

Outstanding food with a great atmosphere! I had the French dip which I think is a good measure of food quality and it was amazing. The atmosphere was great, the only thing I would caution against is sitting next to the AC ducts on the second floor in the summer. The feel of the restaurant was very homey and relaxing. The beer and drink menu was also great.

Good party room and great wine room, however, I was yelled at and honked at by rude obnoxious customers in the parking lot, twice. They were in a rush to park at the nearest spot. Both were not in good shape and could have benefited from the walk from the back lot. One I confronted. He obviously was a miserable human, I assume he just filed his CT taxes. I prefer to go to establishments where civility is a practiced, but I'll be back because they are big supporters of NPR and I love wings. I suggest making an entrance and exist which would reduce parking lot chaos.
