Rented a cabin here, as 75 now and didn't have camping gear. Was grossed out. The redwoods are sacred, and staying within their energy is wonderful. I thought, "OK, a cabin of redwood in the redwoods. Fine. BUT the cabin was a prefab, trucked in from some other state, with PINE on inside, cement siding (?) outside. No chairs, no table, no mattresses, no bathroom or kitchen. Beds just a slab of plywood. NO soul. Come on folks, other states at least give you vinyl mattresses.

Absolutely amazing place right between the Redwoods with plenty of hiking trails and next to the Smith river. Sites for tents as well as trailers. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table and food locker (against bears). I payed $37 for a night. They sell firewood here. Showers are coin operated ($0.50 for the first minute and $0.25 for every next minute). Barely to no phone reception except next to the visitor center. No WiFi. Restrooms and showers are a bit of a walk. Friendly staff. Bring mosquito coils and repellent; they bite during the day as well. Will definitely come back here.

Sadly had a bad experience here when the Ranger would not let me see the campground DESPITE the fact I had a $200 state park pass. Thanks dude, glad I spent all that $$$. Won't know if I want to stay here until I see the campground but now I know I don't because of that guy. He told me to park and walk through. Oh okay, yeah, that's what I want to do with a knee injury. Guess what, not one other park had this stupid rule. NOT ONE. So I figure this place is too high maintenance, I happily found a better spot at Prairie Creek where the ranger was incredibly nice and helpful.

The park it's self is spectacular! And that is why it gets a 5 star. Like nothing I have ever experienced before! Stout Grove was a super easy little hike and definitely the highlight of my trip to be among those giants! The kids loved playing in the river. The campground is clean and we'll kept, the visitor center and it's host we're awesome and introduced us to the banana slug club ;0) the bathrooms are clean and a 5 min shower for $1.25 isn't too bad.... What was a shame was how the camp hosts treated our (rather large, noisy at times, but compliant group of 30) this is NOT a good campsite for group gatherings. If here are more than ten of you gathered in a site the camp busy body will call the rangers on you. Have an extra car in site? Rangers! Empty cooler out in sight? Rangers! We felt like fellons by the the end of or 5 day family reunion and will NEVER come back! Camp busy body gets 0 stars for making my 65 year old mother cry.

A great spot in the redwoods. All the amenities (showers, activities, nearby gas/store, etc). Tons of great sites. Short walk to Smith River. Overall a really great place to camp, if not a bit on the pricey side.
