About

The Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health provides treatment for children and adults with mental health and/or substance use disorders.

Story

Created with contributions from our community's private sector and with government financing arranged by our former Congressman Paul G. Rogers, the Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health – considered a state-of-the-art facility – opened its doors in September 1970. Some of the original founders were Ed Eissey, PhD, Vivian Rubinger, Jon Moyle, Esq., and Dr. Carl Brumback, all pillars of the community who’s vision was “to treat mental health problems and returning patients to the community where they can function comfortably in the family and community.” During the late 70s to the early 80s, in response to the movement from institutional to community-based mental health care and the needs of a growing number of young adult chronic patients – the largest mass of homeless in the nation since 1920, many new programs were created under the auspices of the Center. With the Center’s growth came the Center’s name changes eg. 45th Street Mental Health Center and Oakwood Center of the Palm Beaches.

In 2011, the Center was given a generous gift by long-time supporter, Jerome Golden. The Center was renamed “The Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health.”

The Center has a 46-year-old, well-established and highly refined infrastructure, which uniquely positions it to provide quality behavioral healthcare services. Based on decades of experience implementing best practices and evidence-based programs, the Center provides comprehensive coordinated services always understanding the latest developments in the field and finding a way to implement them. The CEO serves on numerous State and National Board as well as a Joint Commission Advisory Committee and the CMO is a CMS Surveyor. The integration of these efforts, combined with well-developed Quality Management and Performance Improvement programs ensure comprehensive and efficient programs. In essence, the Center is dedicated to providing care to this vulnerable population, because it understands the profound positive impact that it will have on the lives of these most fragile consumers and their families who deserve every chance to build a life that reaches their highest potential.

Eighty-two percent of clients have an income under $10,000, so the focus is on serving individuals who otherwise would not have access to treatment due to inability to pay. The Center does not refuse services based on the individual’s ability to pay.

The Center provides the right service at the right time in the right moment. This could mean going to someone’s home at 4:00 am to help a family cope with their teenager’s suicide or spending Sunday afternoon with a veteran suffering from PTSD.

Mission

The mission of the Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health is to help clients build resiliency, facilitate recovery and achieve reintegration into the community by designing and delivering behavioral healthcare services that meet their needs and expectations.

To that end, culturally diverse, multidisciplinary professional staff works in conjunction with other community resources to serve individuals and families to strengthen and promote healthy development. Respect for personal dignity and the right to privacy, confidentiality and safety are of the utmost concern, as is the provision of excellent, co-occurring competent, trauma informed, evidence-based expertly delivered affordable care.

The Center’s vision is for all citizens of the community to live healthy and productive lives.

Through its mission- and results-driven approach, the Center has become the Source of Strength to those members of our community diagnosed with a mental illness and their families.

The center is client-focused at every touchpoint; providing quality care and excellent customer service is the driving force behind achieving their mission and values.

RUN, RUN-and run fast. This place is like a jail cell absolutely horrible. The right hand has no clue what the left hand is doing and Janice the administer that missions lady on my god what a joke. This place should definitely without a doubt be shut down tomorrow. They were giving my daughter seraquil sleep medicine at seven in the morning, took five days to get her luggage and personal belongings that actually she never got until she left the facility after the fifth day. The detox room in dark and dreary with jail cell doors and no Clock. The food is absolutely nasty and I wouldn’t even give it to my dogs. They never checked on my daughter they just left her there in the room. Upon leaving they weren’t going to give her the birth certificate, cigarettes or one of her personal bags. When you don’t see pictures of a facility there’s a reason. It’s primarily African-American with maybe one Caucasian person attending and or working there. By the way it’s primarily a mental institution versus a substance-abuse rehabilitation center. Once you sign yourself in voluntarily you need to be signed out by a physician remember that if you love your loved one don’t send them there one from my mistakes!

absolute hellhole of incompetent democrats ... 3 or 4 days no clean clothes , had to get multiple med scripts to rinse with non-alcoholic Biotene® specifically made to alleviate dry mouth often associated with Adderall XR® and other stimulants . Jerome Golden is replete with arrogant and medically ignorant personnel .

I came in because I was suicidal. A staff member grabbed my boob. I told within minutes and was still told, before they asked when the incident happened "why didn't you tell sooner." The story gets a lot worse, but I can't describe it without getting worked up. The staff's reaction was horrible. I can forgive the hospital for the one guy grabbing my breasts, that's just one person. Their reaction to my telling I cannot forgive.

I have been to this center when it was Oakwood and it was a bit better care. The Behavior health tech "Tony" gives a nice body slam on the shower tile floor while you are naked in the shower "if its during the daytime". I did not know that and can tell he gets off on on restraining disabled people and has pure hatred in his heart. He is a total degenerate. Definitely had my basic human rights violated. I would've easily have gotten out of the shower if they asked one time which they didn't. I tried leaving the room at night and was yelled at with pure hatred. Other mental health facilities out here in California offer a higher level of care. They will ask if you want anything to eat if you get out of your room at night. Total difference in care taking.

They actually must have a shortage of things to do. They target and stalk people all day long. Very unprofessional and no credibility. This what the world has come to.
