I grew up in New Jersey. Our annual summer treks 'down the shore' to Seaside Heights for our family vacations included steamed clams, corn on the cob, saltwater taffy, and submarine sandwiches. Three 'subs' cut in half could feed a family of six. In Seaside we'd walk over to Sam's Subs, and if we were in Point Pleasant, you went to Mike's. 

I arrived in Palm Springs and left my iPhone charger at home. As I pulled into the Best Buy parking lot, I saw Jersey Mike's out of the corner of my eye. I was feeling nostalgic and thought "I have to try Jersey Mike's" in Palm Desert, California. 

I had the #13 Original Italian (Regular Size) and I was transported back to the Jersey Shore. What sets the submarine sandwiches from New Jersey apart from everywhere else is the seasoning and the secret sauce (vinaigrette). From the bread to the trimmings and the deli meats, Jersey Mike's gets it right. I loved it and will be back again. If you see a bad review, it's likely due to not liking the flavor profile of a Jersey Sub. If you don't like vinegar, you won't like the sub. It's that simple. 

Jersey Mike's is 100 times better than Subway. No green unripe tomatoes here. This is what a sub sandwich is supposed to taste like. For a taste of the garden state - you gotta check out Jersey Mike's in Palm Desert.

Janelle, MOD, Told me that I could not order the sandwich that I requested, that I MUST order only from the menu. I came in for a mini on white with both cheeses, two slices of turkey and some pepperoni.  I was repeatedly told that I could not order this sandwich, event though I had it yesterday, and countless times before that. Finally I gave up and ordered a number 7 with double cheese, lite turkey and pepperoni. Janelle took great trouble at this point to become as difficult as possible, first putting only one slice of cheese on the sandwich and claiming there would be an extra charge when I asked for more than one slice. Then adding more turkey than I had requested, and then slicing the pepperoni as thinly as possible and putting two of the paper thin slices on the sandwich. When I requested some additional pepperoni, knowing I was being charged for it, I was told by Janelle that would be an additional extra charge. So for a mini with both cheeses, lite turkey and some pepperoni, Janelle wanted to charge me 5.99 for the mini, plus twice for extra cheese, (.79) and twice for extra meat (1.29). The sandwich, a mini, would have been $10.15 before tax and tip. Janelle clearly took pleasure in being as difficult as possible and while I understand everyone has bad days, at the end of the day I left with no sandwich, money in my pocket and a bad taste in my mouth.

Ordered a sub online. Paid over $15 for a "giant". Asked for no sauerkraut, got all the way home, and of course it's loaded with sauerkraut. It's really not that hard to pay a little attention. First and most definitely my last time here. 👎🏻
