I understand JFK is a busy airport and each experience will be different but it's been nothing but horrid service for the past few years, like how while coming in through an international flight it took 2 hours for us to go through customs even though there were only about 30 people in front of us because there were only one customs officer. Or other experiences like having to take an hour or two to go through security because that part of the airport is similarly badly staffed despite being one of the busiest airports in the country if not the world. The staff is always rude, I've literally never had anyone smile at me or even attempt a greeting. Many even act condescending towards me and my mother because we are Asian, often acting as though we don't understand English purely because we've asked them to repeat something they've said, often because their accents are completely incomprehensible. I've never been so harassed about my English abilities (of which have always been described as stellar by all my teachers) anywhere except in this airport. I also did not enjoy being glared and scoffed at (or other passive aggressive behavior) and then listening to that same person immediately making friendly small talk with the next person that passes. They humiliate passengers for making the smallest mistakes going through security. The staff act more like drill sergeants or prison guards than staff whose jobs is to keep people safe and help them through security. The bathrooms are unclean and always smells horrid, the meals are ridiculously expensive (though that's to be expected at airports). My domestic flights were extremely delayed because of the shortage of gates. All in all, JFK is without a doubt the worst airport I've ever had the misfortune of traveling through, which is shameful when you consider that it is one of the largest airports in one of the most prosperous cities in the world.

Not my favorite place in the world. Getting here is challenging at best. If you're switching from domestic to international, don't do it in an hour or less. You'll be incredibly stressed out. Security is a disaster and consistently takes a long time so plan on getting here way before you would a normal airport. However once you're through security the airport is one of the better ones. Terminal 4 is old and needs some updates. And as I have said about other US airports, currency exchange is a scam. The rates are far better in the EU, UK, and eastern Asia for US dollars, so wait until you get to your destination country if you can. They won't give you a straight answer in hundreds to make a fair comparison to the going rate. Trust me you'll pay far more money with a lousy rate than you will in Europe, Canada or east Asia.

We are from America, so great airport for us. Although I would say as far as international airport could be better. Terminal 4 we have noticed is nice to pick up from because they have a Diner inside the terminal. Food is not home made but good diner fair, burgers and breakfast all in one. Best is eat at home & have a better flight. There is a gas station, car wash & Wendy's a mile away still inside the airport road. Also there is a train that is very convenient for New York or Philly. As always make arrangements before you travel.

This is one of the busiest airports in the world. There is always something or other renovation going on here. There are very few food options. Good number of shops for killing some time. The traffic is very high near the airport (while reaching here). So make sure to start very early to avoid flight miss.

My ipad was stolen out of my suitcase after having it had checked in at JFK - no damage to the lock, so I guess it must have been done by some of their own staff handling the luggage or by homeland security. They are seriously lacking the supervision of their staff, one of the key elements of a trustworthy airport. They are much better at yelling at the customers at the security check!
