I've been a customer here intermittently for almost a decade; when they were privately owned they were my first choice whenever I needed temporary overstock storage. They were always fair, polite and accommodating with a real hometown feel. I had a great relationship with Denise, their location manager who was eventually promoted to oversee the district...the very definition of professionalism. All that changed when they were acquired by The Prime Group. I went in to secure a storage unit just over a year ago and I was surprised to discover that I needed to provide proof of a Homeowner's Insurance policy or wind up paying a $10/month surcharge. I was also informed that I could purchase one of their round locks and waive the fee. I bought the lock and thought nothing of it. Imagine my surprise when several months later I noticed several $10 fees on my bill. Now, I will admit that this bill was on autopay and I didn't routinely check the bill itself; but since I had such a great relationship with the company up till that point I didn't expect that I should be scrutinizing my bill for hidden fees. That never happened in the past. Well, I called the office to discuss the fees, and was curtly informed that "I had signed a contract, and it was right there in plain English." Strike one. I countered by informing the receptionist that when Scott had signed up he had verbally informed me that the fee was waived, and that this could be actionable if need be. I was interrupted and told that there was no way the fee would be reversed. Strike two. I decided to drive up to the location directly with a voice recorder in tow in hopes of speaking with Denise in order to resolve this issue. (This was when I found out that she had been promoted.) I was eventually and begrudgingly transferred to the new district manager, who gave me a very polished speech about how they were very sorry, etc. but they wouldn't remove the fees under any circumstances. I told her if she didn't agree to remove the fees my next stop would be Small Claims Court followed by a 1 star review online. At this point the receptionist actually laughed out loud at me. Strike three. I'm a man of my word: I filed Small Claims paperwork that same day. And as for the review? Well here you go. Long story short, I was credited the fees about two weeks after I filed the Complaint, and I packed up my products and haven't looked back. It's a shame that companies are trying so hard to fleece their customer base for as much as they can. Look, I understand that self-storage can be awash with a myriad of low-rent dirtbags who don't even bother to pay after the first month, but a few of us actually do honor our responsibilities. Prime Group's draconian approach is undoubtedly costing them more business that they anticipated. I did business with them for almost 10 years...but never again.

They do not mention in the price quote over the phone that there is a mandatory monthly fee of ten dollars extra for rental insurance ..you find that out when you go over there to sign up . I felt mislead

Horrible customer service. Hidden fees. And they make it impossible to do business with them cause they want to sell your stuff. Would never use this facility again.
