Story

Knob Noster State Park is a state-operated, public recreation area covering in Johnson County, Missouri, in the United States. The state park bears the name of the nearby town of Knob Noster, which itself is named for one of two small hills or "knobs" that rise up in an otherwise flat section of Missouri. Noster is a Latin adjective meaning "our"—therefore, Knob Noster translates as "our hill." A local Indian belief stated that the hills were "raised up as monuments to slain warriors." The park offers year-round camping, hiking, and fishing and is managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.HistoryThe park was called the Montserrat National Recreational Demonstration Area when it was created in the 1930s as part of a nationwide effort by the National Park Service to show how land that had been cleared for lumbering, mining or farming could be restored and reclaimed for public recreational purposes. The park was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration. The men of the CCC and WPA built roads, bridges, camping areas, picnic areas, and park service buildings. The park was transferred to the state of Missouri in 1946 and renamed for the city of Knob Noster. In 1985, several demonstration area structures dating from the 1930s were added to the National Register of Historic Places

Great State park. Well kept and campsites are well separated and lots of shade. A small lake is nearby with great hikes. There are great groups sites as well. I thought the nearby base would be a draw back, but while we were there we never heard the planes. Were there on a Friday night through Saturday. The campsite only has a store in the check in station, but still had ice, wood and treats as well as other necessities. So excited to find a great park nearby for overnight or long stays. The shower and bathrooms are brand new!

This place has tons of fishing locations, biking/hiking trails, camping locations, lakes, and a lot of wild life to see! hiking trails range from 1.5 to 5.5 miles from what i saw there. This place is great to bring your family for fishing or the playgrounds. Dog owners can also have their dogs however they must be leashed. I would also recommend bug spray and a bag of supplies if you are hiking the longer trails around the park.

Some of the richest colors I’ve seen! Insanely beautiful forest, water, and buildings. I didn’t have much time to check it out (passing by to the State Fair), but I was very impressed with what I DID experience! I definitely will return!
