Story

L'Atelier Salon lovingly welcomes guests of all ages, genders, sexual orientations and spiritual beliefs.

Our mission is to provide the inspiration and tools for clients to cultivate a personal sense of style. We customize our care to the lifestyles and hair types of individuals—be they on their way to the beach or preparing for a special event. Our highly trained stylists are committed to innovative design, continuing education and attentive customer care.

I was drawn to the space because of its convenient location and abundant natural light. Voted Best New Green Business by the community of Santa Cruz, and a certified green business by the Monterey Green Business Program year after year, the salon is unique in its commitment to eco-friendly products and service and customer care. L'Atelier uses materials that are safe for clients, stylists and the environment, including post-consumer recycled paper, LED light bulbs, and food-grade, biodynamic and organic products from Aveda and Kevin Murphy. With two open stories and high ceilings, the architecture affords ventilation and an airy, bright working space. L'Atelier was designed and fabricated by local artisans—from the stunning front desk to the rotating art on the salon's walls—and provisioned by local vendors—from the low VOC paints to the sustainably harvested cork flooring. Its central location offers clients and stylists low-impact options for travel by foot, bicycle or public transportation.
