I am the realtor about whom this bizarrely uncharitable review was written. I regret that Ms. Cerny’s diatribe was not discovered by my manager sooner so as to afford me the opportunity to respond more promptly. Much time has passed since this apparent incident, and it is a shame that my office’s reputation had to suffer because of one person’s irrational desire to make a scapegoat out of me. I understand Ms. Cerny’s disappointment at not being selected for this apartment, but I did nothing to deserve such slander. 

She states correctly that she was the first client to respond to the listing. After we toured the apartment, I made explicitly clear the advantage of arranging her financial paperwork as soon as possible. I have assisted the same landlord in finding tenants for this apartment many times before, and it has proven its desirability time and time again both for its proximity to the train station and its inclusion of garage parking. I told her that it would be gone very quickly, and so she would need to move fast if she wanted a chance at getting it. 

Ms. Cerny seems not to have taken my words to heart, because an entire week passed before she came to me with her paperwork and a completely unfounded expectation that she was entitled to the apartment. Within that week I had already been contacted by five additional interested parties. We real estate agents try our best to be as fair to our clients as the conditions allow, but in circumstances like these I am actually working for the landlord who legally retains the right to decide who will be living on his or her property. Nevertheless, I delivered her paperwork to the landlord, but it was too late. 

As it turned out, one of people who responded to the listing was a family friend of the landlord. She had already decided to award the contract to this person, not only because of their familiarity, but because that person was seeking a longer rental period than Ms. Cerny. As soon as I learned of this development I informed Ms. Cerny that she would have to look elsewhere. Never did I string her along or offer her vague updates. I have to say that this is an outright fabrication. Why would I do something so pointless? In fact, after I first showed her the apartment, she expressed some doubt and implied she would look for other apartments before deciding. Unfortunately that decision may have cost her. I asked the landlord to comment on her experience of this situation, and you can read her own words quoted below.

"I am the landlord associated with the property Nori Cerny wrote about.
The reason Ms. Cerny was refused as a tenant was because she could
only commit  to a relatively short amount of time. Yes, I am a long time
Port Washington resident but would consider renting to any appropriate
candidate. I am just sorry that this exchange of reviews had to happen.
Rita has been working for us for many years without incident she is an excellent Realtor".

As far as my use of the word “townie” is concerned, I must confess I was unaware it could be interpreted in a derogatory way. I was merely trying to convey that both the renter and the landlord have long family histories in Port Washington, so their relationship is quite strong. You can understand I was just trying to soften the blow of not her being selected. She was against someone who had an unfair advantage to say the least. And in any case, my husband would be considered a “townie” by that definition. I have no pretense of supremacy.

Ms. Cerny also grossly exaggerates my conversation with our mutual friend. I would never disclose sensitive information about my clients. I will say nothing more so as not to involve anybody who doesn’t need to be.
It is my misfortune that this calumny was published to the detriment of my name and of our office here in Port Washington. I hope Ms. Cerny will act more maturely next time something doesn’t go her way, and not endanger peoples’ livelihood for the sake of childish venting.

I had to click on a star in order to post. Please think of this as a NO STARS rating! I answered an apartment listing with Rita O'Leary. I saw the apartment and wanted to take it and sign immediately. It was exactly what I needed. Then it all went quickly downhill. She didn't call me with updated information even after I gave her my credit score and application. She kept giving vague excuses as to why nothing was happening. She did refer to the apartment's owner as a "townie" which made me uncomfortable. Days went by, then a week and I had to reach out to another broker to find out what was happening. Rita told the other broker that the apartment was really promised to the owner's niece (or maybe the niece's friend). Rita was told to call me to apologize but she never did. She never called again. The big PS came when I spoke to a friend about 2 weeks later who knows Rita - something I didn't know - and Rita repeated my personal business to this mutual friend. My business was confidential (and I told Rita it had to be kept between us) and she went and made it news. I have NEVER met such an unprofessional, self-involved, selfish business person EVER. Do NOT do business with 
Rita O'Leary. She is bad news. BEWARE!!!!!
