Good place to camp with a family. While being close to amenities, Lake Ogallala feels secluded. A very pretty lake with opportunities for camping, fishing, boating (5 mph, no wake max), hiking, biking, birding and more. There is a nice playground that was recently improved on the west side. The west side of the lake had plenty of primitive camping. The east side has paid sites with RV hookups. It tends to be less busy than Lake McConaughey, though I still avoid camping here on holiday weekends. There is no need for four wheel drive to camp here. As others have noted, it can smell when the hydro plant is running. But, I don't find it overpowering, and I don't notice it after a few minutes. A great place to camp.

Great for paddle boarding- lots of birds to watch and the water is super clear closer to the river with huge catfish.  There is a distinct smell to the lake that is much different from Lake Mac

Quaint Campground, except for the sulfur dioxide smell from the downspout arriving from Lake McConaughy. Be forewarned.
