Lakeland Behavioral Health System is a regional psychiatric center for children & adolescents, older adults and service members.

Children & adolescents are treated in both a short-term acute care setting and a long-term residential setting. Acute services are provided to males and females ages 4-17. Residential services are designed for males and females 9-20 and includes a specialized tract for males with sexually maladaptive behavior.

The older adult unit is for patients over 60 who....

This was the worst place we could have sent our daughter for help!
We never spoke with a doctor. They never discussed what their thoughts were on why our daughter was having her problems. They even had her sign herself out BEFORE her father arrived to pick her up. They never responded to her doctor, at home, when he would call or email requesting updates or to speak with their on call doctor. 

Sadly, my daughter came home with additional issues and was worse off than when she was admitted. I am very unhappy and even more concerned about my daughter because of the lack of support Lakeland provided.  

I would not recommend sending your child to this facility. You run the risk of your child having more issues and more hurdles to overcome.

I liked it on 3 North. I got what I needed and got out. But My Mother was not informed on most things.  Oh, and they lost some of my clothes after being forced to wear almost-prison clothes.

My 89 year old husband was here for 6 days and was transferred back to Mercy with chest pains. When they called me I got there before they called the ambulance to find him smelling badly . They had bathed him but one time. Because of the meds they had him on he could not care for himself.  He had soiled underwear. I hand bathed him before they took him to Mercy. After I got him to a room he told me his foot was still hurting. He had an open sore on his ankle. Because they make the patients sit in a very small room for long periods of time, and will not allow them to nap in their rooms, he also had a sore bottom. His bed had a bottom sheet that you could read a newspaper through a top sheet and 1 thin blanket.  I took blankets up there for him.  It is cold the staff was wearing layers.  I feel really bad for those patients who has no one to look out for them.  I would not treat an animal like they are treated.

I sent my daughter here,  thinking that she would get the help that she needed. Instead,  she got the complete opposite. The staff are flat out rude, not only to me,  but they talk to these kids and treat them horrible. My daughter felt worse than when she went in this place. And I'm not quite sure why they even have a "housekeeping" staff, because the place is filthy disgusting, and there are roaches. As soon as I read all of the terrible reviews on this place, which I should have done before sending my daughter here,  I picked her up immediately. They called me her 3rd day here,  to confirm starting her on her medication, but they never did. When  I asked them why,  they said they needed to confirm with me first,  which they did. .. I called Sarah, the social worker three days in a row,  and left voicemails,  never got a call back. I also called Janie the therapist,  3 days in a row, but her voicemail was full,  everyday, so I couldn't leave her a voicemail. So I asked the nurses station to please give those two ladies the message to call me,  as her parent, I deserve to know what's going on with my child,  and her progress. Never got a call back. My daughter wore the same clothes for 5 days,  they never got washed. My aunt went to see her,  and took her some food,  the staff took it from her,  and said that visitors can not bring them food, So my daughter asked for a dinner tray, and she never got one,  everyone else did though. So as my daughter and I were walking down the stairwell to leave,  she informed me that they took the food my aunt brought her,  and never gave her a dinner tray. So I went right back up there,  and asked them why she didn't get a dinner tray, and they said because I showed up,  which was a lie, because she asked for it way before I showed up. Then the nurse asked me if I would like the mcdonalds that they took from my daughter, THREE HOURS BEFORE I GOT THERE!!! DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS PLACE FOR HELP!!!! Monday morning I will be on the phone,  reporting this disgusting place,  and their unprofessional, ignorant staff. And I don't know why they bother setting a password for your child, because they leave the book open for the kids to see it,  so my daughter knew her password. She also overheard a nurse telling another co-worker that she would never send her own child there. No, it's not a resort, but insurance has absolutley NOTHING with how disgusting this place is,  and how rude and unprofessional the staff are. Insurance also has NOTHING to do with the fact that once your child is in this place,  they WILL NOT RETURN YOUR CALLS.

was a patient at lakeland for 4 months last year. from 04.27.16 - 08.25.16 . i had experience on the integrity unit, as well as 2S & 4S . overall , my experience was horrible and traumatic . the staff would actually call you names, and give you unnecessary punishments . children (9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ) that struggled with smb were put into the same rooms together and put cups over the cameras & did things. we didnt get enough food . i went in at 130 lbs and came out at 110, i was put on 12 psych meds almost immediatley, and was constantly given “booty darts” for acting out. the first night i pulled my covers down on my bed and there was a cockroach. overall just unsanitary . DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE !!!
