I don't even know what this place is now. I know it as only one thing !!! The Limelight Rock & Roll Church. Like CBGBs, Roseland and countless great Rock Clubs that have closed in a New York City I notice less & less everyday. As we give way to the ultra rich. The artists and the places they dwell go away. The Limelight was a very special club. Very New York. Or should I say very old New York..

When I was a kid and used to visit New York my uncle lived around the corner from the limelight. The lights, the music, and the weird people wearing crazy outfits and lot of makeup drew me in, but I was much to young to go. The limelight of today sells $4 cupcakes, designer teas, and games. I guess it is a nice place to get unique trinkets and household goods and it is probably interesting to go to if you got to go to the limelight in its prime. Before I left I bought a cooking apron with a S&M print at a kitchen boutique. It just seemed fitting.

Where do I begin? It started as a church, turned into a disco, and now it's a mall. Actually, it's pretty much a maze, too, with tiny shops all by themselves on odd little levels. They're a little more interesting than the average mall, but not by much. It's a gorgeous building and its history may shock your tourist friends, so you could do worse things than stop in.

Ick. Odds are you'll like one or two of the shops in this bizarre mini-mall. The vibe, though, isn't pleasant. It's hard to navigate, and the scent of desperation is everywhere. The shop you like today will probably be different next week. As much as I'd like to be positive, we need to face facts: it wasn't smart making this place a mall, and that mistake should be rectified ASAP.

A three-story shopping emporium inside a church - fun place to stroll, browse, shop, eat and drink. You may even get inspired by the architecture and design to snap some photos while you're there.
