Story

Local Eatery and Pub is a farm to table driven restaurant focusing on families, but offering options for the more adventurous diners. Opened in February of 2011 by Derek Means and Craig Baker, we feature hand-crafted, freshly made artisan foods, locally crafted ales and cocktails, using all-natural and organic ingredients when available.

Locally Supported Agriculture
Supportling local farmers helps build a vibrant local economy as well as minimizes our environmental foot-print. Using local farms, we are able to travel to the farms, interact with the families, and ensure that the farming practices demonstrate respect for the land and the animals. Continuing to grow these relationships will ultimately help build a dynamic local community with its own food culture.

Our mission is to be a socially and environmentally responsible business in an eco-friendly environment serving healthy regional, great tasting, fresh foods that are grown, raised and produced by local artisans.

We have high standards and our goal is to sell the highest quality products we possibly can at a value competitive price offering. We define these standards by evaluating all of our ingredients for freshness, safety, nutritive value and appearance.

The Local is in the process of obtaining our certification for being a “Green” restaurant from the Green Restaurant Association. We would be the first independently owned restaurant in Indiana to obtain this certification.

We have a child with food allergies of the carry-around-an-EpiPen level. Many restaurants now use hamburger buns with egg. We were happy find that The Local has vegan buns so were safe for him (no nuts either). Fries are fried in canola oil - not peanut (another of his allergies) oil. My other kids like the tenderloin. One of my sons decided to be adventurous and try the chicken gyro. He didn't like it. They immediately made it disappear and quickly replaced it with something he did like and comped the gyro. Handled perfectly. I enjoyed the Mushroom burger the first time I had it. The next time - not as much. The mustard flavor was overpowering. At $13 for the burger it should be consistently better. I decided to splurge for the Cajun fries for $0.75 extra. I would suggest passing on add-on. It looks like they gave it some healthy shakes with the Cajun seasoning shaker and called it a day. I guess I was expecting something a little more gourmet for the up-charge. The mac and cheese looks to be very popular from looking at the other tables. I had it as a side with my burger and can see why. The Local gets very busy Friday nights. Be sure to make a reservation for popular evenings. Also be prepared to wait awhile for service during busy times. Sunday lunch was not busy at all and service was fine. All in all, we enjoy this restaurant. My perception is the food consistency is a bit hit-or-miss. It is just a bit overpriced but who can blame them if they are so popular at times? Worth a try.

I ate in their outdoor seating. I met someone else there who was already seated when I arrived, so I never actually went in the restaurant. The food was good and the wait staff was attentive. I would definitely visit again.

Best Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had. Burger was overcooked but still tasty. Cool atmosphere and reasonable prices.

At there for the first time tonight and highly recommend it. The poutine appetizer was amazing- my teenager LOVED it- and the beignets for dessert were yummy. Great service too.
