Best one-stop book shop in Minneapolis! Expansive departments abound here, from fiction to domestic and world history, impeccably organized. Another plus is their juvenile section, which features new, gently used and cut-out titles packed with surprises for the patient bookshop addict. European and Canadian cut-outs about here, and before purchasing any title, shoppers would be wise to compare the everyday 10% discount off cover for those that are gently used, overstocked or deleted from the catalog. Although the staff here is quintessentially bookish, I have not yet encountered a snob in the mix. Dogs on leash are welcome, and the spacious interior has enough room to peruse one's stack of titles for awhile. M&Q is also a reasonable place to sell your gently used books, and while their payouts aren't they used to be (whose are?) they far exceed the payouts of Half-Price Books and other corporate outlets. Near the busy intersection of Hennepin and Lake, on-street parking within a few blocks of the shop is often limited. Check neighboring streets for options. Consult the store's website for their latest readings and signings, many featuring top-tier authors. The demise of the private, independent bookseller is a continuing problem these days, so your support of Majers & Quinn will brighten your day and make the world a little better.

Amazing selection of books in all genres and categories. It’s always cool to look at the collectibles and first pressings they have.

Nice store, large variety, staff is hit or miss...last experience left me less than impressed: Went to buy the first Harry Potter book (yeah, I'm a bit behind on it). The gal in the help section did a great job of pointing to their location, I'm sure standing up and walking the 12 ft while she was doing nothing would have killed her...but hey, it happens. I went to the bookshelf, looked thru the options, and told her I couldn't find It. She said "yeah, it's probably sold out, we go thru the first three often." They apparently don't have an inventory system to verify this against (?), just her own knowledge as she didn't offer to check anything...ok then. As I walk out, the front desk guy (much friendlier) asks if I had any luck, I said they didn't appear to have the first Harry Potter in - same thing: "Yeah, we sell those fast." Brilliant idea - if you're a brick & mortar store who wants to stay in business, and you know what items sell fast and are likely priced with decent margin, invest some capital in those products and keep them in-stock (unless losing easy sales is in your operating budget, which it could be, this place has been here for a long time). I went outside to my bike and had a copy bought in under 3 mins from a ridiculously random seller on my phone - meaning it wasn't some juggernaut who flexes buying power from publishers and that's why they had copies and not Magers. I was looking to spend more from a local shop (we all know buying books online is cheaper) and wasn't able to do so - I mean, they didn't even offer to order it and let me know when it would be in. They just let me walk out and spend money elsewhere. Makes sense: I was buying the first of, what, seven books? Which means they'll lose 7 purchases from me for this series alone (why would I go back to buy the others from them?).
