We rented a room for the five of us to attend a live dark comedy murder-focused show in Madison. After driving 5 plus hours, we entered our room, which was spacious and well-maintained. The beds were roomy and the shower had a nice range of pressures. We only stayed for a night, but it was a very good find.

Location was cool because it was kinda hidden away from the city. It was also next to the Harley Davidson store which was awesome. Staff were nice and the room was excellent. Pool was too small though. Breakfast was delicious, definitely like the self serve pancakes. Definitely give it 5/7 stars

I live in Madison, and own a Rottweiler. So since my wife and I need to swing home several times a day to take care of our buddy we created the tradition of staying at the Magnussen on our anniversary/my birthday weekend. Madison has a lot of choices for hotels, and we chose the Magnusson because of the customer service and quality. We went again this year, and it was by far the worst experience I've encountered. After check in we found out the pool area was closed "for the day for maintenance", which would have been good to know before we checked in as we would have went somewhere with a pool. Ironically, the pool remained closed for all three days we were there. When management was asked about this they stated their full time maintenance quit and now does work when they are available. If this was the only issue I could have looked past it. We got placed in 414 which is a whirlpool suite, there was a raw egg smell from the cleaner using lye on the hot tub without rinsing it out. Additionally, and more importantly one of the jets on the hot tub was broken and my wife cut her hand. Management moved us to a different room, this time 401, another whirlpool suite. The hallway and bathroom were filled with the smell of weed, and there was a dead fly crusted to the ceiling, and a couple live bugs running around. Once again we speak to management, who moves us into 314. Here there is one piece of glass on the top of the bed, trash behind the trash can in bathroom and hair in the shower. I visited management again and asked for fresh blankets so I could remake the bed because I didn't know where else there was glass. Management sent up housekeeping, who almost whipped the blanket off of the bed, which would have caused the glass to fly onto the floor. Management advised me they had been in contact with the owner and the owner would be in on Saturday. Our stay was scheduled from Friday until Sunday morning. Keep in mind that Friday was my wedding anniversary and Saturday was my birthday, and we had went here to relax. The owner offers to comp Sunday night for us, which we accepted. After such a terrible experience I would have expected a full refund, and had I been the owner I would have been ashamed to offer anything less. While I appreciate the offer for the free night, it didn't even begin to make up for everything we went through during our stay. The only reason we didn't ask for a full refund and leave during our stay was the responsiveness of Natasha the manager on duty. She delivered the excellent customer service I have come to expect from the Magnuson Grand. I am disappointed with the experience and will not be returning next year. While the manager did everything possible to ensure a pleasant stay, the experience itself was such a drawn out, and exhaustive experience that I don't want to take the chance of the same occurring next year. Especially when you combine the experience with the owners inadequate response. I have posted pictures under the photos section of our experience. My advice is to choose any of the other amazing hotels in Madison, there are quite a few of them around the same price point. My advice too the owner of Magnuson Grand is to decide what type of hotel you are and deliver service accordingly. Realize that you cannot charge comparable rates to other hotels and deliver sub-par service while still expecting people to give you their business. Thank you Natasha for delivering excellent service during our stay. Your responsiveness to the issues is the reason we didn't immediately leave and drive back home.

While nothing overly elegant the staff is friendly, it has a pool and you can buy beer or wine on site. There is a bar next door that's fun and has decent bar food. Rooms were clean and reasonably priced.

Our room so clean set up was very nice. The staff was nice. Would have like bacon in the breakfast in the morning.
