Maine Primitive Skills School

About

Your Wilderness Survival and Primitive Skills School http://www.primitiveskills.com

Story

The Maine Primitive Skills School is a wilderness survival school located on 23 wooded acres in Augusta, Maine. Our goal is to reconnect people to ancient technologies and to themselves. We teach primitive skills, survival skills, wilderness survival, modern survival, bushcraft, native awareness, wildlife tracking, earth living, shelter building, water collection & purification, friction fire making, bow making, flintknapping, wild edibles, hide tanning, scout skills, primitive hunting, earth philosophy, drum making, survival trapping, and more.

We are a group dedicated to reconnecting ourselves and others to our ancestral roots through skills that have been practiced for two million years. Primitive skills connect us to what is meaningful and real and dispel the illusions created by modern society. Through our odyssey we have become a teaching community that continues to grow and celebrate new members each time we gather for a class. Wilderness Survival and Earth skills may be what we teach, but they really teach us how to be a family once again.

We invite you to become part of our tribe by walking through our door. Be warned: these primitive skills will change you. You will not see the world in the same way nor will you be able to return to the place from whence you came. We welcome you to our Survival School.

This place is the best! Micheal Douglas and his wonderful family are the best! Mike cares about his craft, creating a community, and passing down primitive skills from one generation to the next. Hands down this is one of the best wilderness and survival schools you could ever attend.

This place has changed my life. This school has provided amazing training in survival, friction fire including bow drill and hand drill. The bushcraft instruction has been fantastic.

I've attended a few classes now, ranging from 5-day immersion to weekend class to afternoon walks. All were amazing and challenged my current knowledge and skill level. MPSS takes students where they are at, young or old, fit or flabby, fresh out of the city or survival-skilled - and the instructors work patiently with each student until everyone is on the same page. You will be challenged - but you may accept each challenge by choice. It's not about hurry up and get it done. This is a place where wildlife is carefully observed and respected, including the trees and plants. Learning how to slow down (and be totally at peace with that) is another gift that is learned there. There is tremendous knowledge, fun and happiness at MPSS. People keep coming back because it feels like home.
