If I could give Maize ZERO stars for customer service I would. Used to love the place but will never ever go back. Trust me and don't even THINK of making a reservation at Maize on a night when there is a NJ PAC performance! I made a 6:00 reservation a week in advance of seeing a show and then even confirmed it the day of the performance, which began at 7:30 just to ensure we would have enough time. When my party walked into the restaurant at 5:55 we were ignored for a full 4-5 minutes and then when who I assume was the maitre d walked over he immediately started scowling at me and saying we were late and he just gave our table to another party because we were 15 minutes late and that's how long they will hold a reservation!!! He then points to his computer where my name and the time 5:45 is listed. I thought he was kidding until he kept saying that he had to go with what was "in the system." When I pointed out that I had called the restaurant earlier that afternoon to confirm my reservation (and I was pretty sure I spoke with HIM on the phone) he just kept scowling and saying he had to go with his "system." I was trying to be as nice and polite as I could because I have been to Maize before and really enjoyed it and want to support Downtown Newark restaurants AND I was facing down a 7:30 curtain with my husband and two hungry good friends. But my husband then totally lost his cool and pointed out that the restaurant clearly DID NOT wait 15 minutes for us and also didn't call us to ask where we were (I had left a phone number when I first made the reservation) and we wouldn't ever be giving them our money again. I highly recommend you avoid this place like the plague--especially if you need to make a show at the NJ PAC :-(

This is a nice place to stop by for dinner before a show at NJPAC. The location is perfect as it is in the Robert Treat Hotel, right across the street from the theater. This worked out perfectly as we were out with two ladies that have difficulty walking. They have a pre-show fixed priced menu that includes appetizer, dinner, and dessert that is reasonably priced. You need reservations. It has a relaxing atmosphere with interesting items on the menu. The waiter was friendly and made us feel welcome and not hurried.
