Manayunk Brewing Company

About

Manayunk Brewing Company is the only brewery in Manayunk, featuring the largest outdoor dining area in Philadelphia!

Story

MANAYUNK got its name from the Lenape Native American word meaning, “place where we drink,” which identified its ideal location at the confluence of the Schuylkill River & the Wissahickon Creek.

During the 1800’s & into the 20th century, Manayunk’s location on the river allowed it to boom in the manufacture & sale of fine textiles. The building you’re in was once a woolen mill, opened in 1822 by Anne Dawson. The original antique scale, that was used to weigh the wool brought into the factory, can be found at the entrance of the Manayunk Brewing Company even to this day!

In 1912, the Krook family took over, but maintained the original cornerstone. The Krook’s Mill, now Manayunk Brewing Company, was one of the linchpins of the American textile industry, & didn’t close its doors until 1992.

Four years later, Harry Renner IV brought the facility back to life as a space for retail business, a fine eatery & brewery for both neighbors & visitors alike to enjoy.

Our first batch of fresh-brewed beer was tapped on October 17, 1996. In 2000, we expanded our outdoor seating with a deck overlooking the Schuylkill River. In 2003 we added a Stone Oven & a Sushi Bar to expand our menu selection.

We pride ourselves on using local providers for our produce, baked goods, meats & seafood, all to ensure you the freshest quality possible to complement our award winning beer. Evan Fritz is currently our head brewmaster.

As a restaurant they are pretty good. The bar is good and the sushi is great. But the beer is not worth trying unless you like experimental beer. Great deck in the summer.

Came for the Jazz Brunch... Loved the music and the staff is incredibly friendly. The food? Eh, not so much. I got started at 1pm. The food was cold. The roast beef (the better not be trying to call it prime rib) was stone cold. The bloody mary tasted like I was drinking straight shrimp cocktail sauce! The mimosa was delish. This is definitely more of an "atmosphere" place. I won't do brunch again but I will come back for the music and maybe to check out the happy hour.

I really liked their stout. The porter was interesting but a bit too weird for even my taste. I loved that they brought me spicy popcorn!

Absolutely thee worst place. They won't let you drink outside in the sitting area around the bar outside if you bought drinks from the bar on the inside!!! A young African American bartender was forced to come over and tell me i had to leave- from what looked like to be the manager of the outside bar, a tall white older douche. I was stunned and told them how ridiculous they are for making me leave after paying for over priced beer i bought to enjoy myself by myself at nobody's expense in a god damn corner at a table...I also told them they would be getting this review and they did not give one flying f***. I've never been so embarrassed for a company in my life 😳 If you want to be ripped off, this place is for you.

Customer service is a zero. After a night out for dinner at the brew pub, we left disappointed and are sure to never return. After ordering appetizers first and entrees later and even stressed to the waitress (who was essentially non existent in a barely filled restaurant) that we wanted time between courses, all of our food appeared at once. The runner and waitress seemed befuddled and the manager came out and was belligerent, she did not apologize or ask what she can do to make it right. Instead she tells us that it is a "Very big restaurant and the kitchen has many areas" so that's why the food comes out that way. I offered that regardless of the restaurants size, the waitstaff and kitchen need to coordinate these things. she then countered with "Well you ordered the fish and chips which cooks very fast, that's why everything arrived so quickly" really....? After returning the entrees, they seemed to spite us and brought the entrees 45 minutes later when the restaurant was near empty. Oh and did we mention our friend was pregnant and we had our two year old with us? Bottom line- worst customer service experience we've had in a long time. For a nice beer selection, better food and better service in manayunk - try Craft across the street!
