This was one of the early Mariano's stores in the city and attracted large crowds when first opened.  Now that the dust has settled the store can be judged better by what it provides.  Number one is the location in Chicago's New East Side neighborhood and the second is the lunch crowd from nearby office locations.  The result is a supermarket that provides an extensive hot table, salad bar, deli, and other take out options on the street level second floor.  The first floor caters to the neighborhood with traditional grocery offerings.  Because of the diverse makeup, there is a smattering of ethnic foods, but to my tastes, it's better to go to the ethnic neighborhoods in the city if you are looking for anything out of the ordinary -- there just isn't room for everything.  If you are driving, parking for two hours is provided for free with validation, but beware the garage is small, very narrow spaces, and difficult to navigate.  When the store first opened it was without competition.  Now there is a Bockwinkel's minimart in the basement of a nearby building, several restaurants in the New East Side Market Village, and a Whole Foods with lots of parking only a quarter of a mile away on Columbus and Illinois Streets.

Very nice, helpful, friendly people. Good food selection. Lovely charcuterie makings. Fresh bakery goodies. Where can you get 4 great sushi rolls filled with fresh fish, delicious toppings and sauces for $35? Oven fired pizza for $6! Varirty of fresh juices and smoothies. Hot food bar and coffee, gelato bar. Nice indoor and outdoor seating and views. And downstairs has a nice liquor selection and wine bar. Great prices, quality products and nice people too.

Wonderful neighborhood grocery with an unbelievable selection of wine, beer and liquor.  Better than most liquor stores. Great selection of all grocery items and flowers too.

Great place to pick up a prepped lunch grab and go, a few groceries to have in your hotel or airbnb, wine, cheese. etc.

Fantastic grocery store (and quick food option). Priced very reasonably considering location. Produce is usually great. Great beer selection. Occasionally find expired dry goods on shelves.  Also has: bar, sushi, made to order grill, hot sandwiches, coffee bar, Gelato, and more!
