First a bit of background: the coaching staff at MEGA come from the successful NESA gym in Westwood that closed down in late 2015 when the building was no longer available. They bring along many incredibly talented athletes from their competitive team who have competed at junior world championships and Junior Olympics. The owner and head coach Levon recently returned from coaching an Armenian gymnast at Rio 2016. I was a bit intimidated by the accolades of the competitive team, as I have a 3-year-old who just wants to hang from the bars and walk across the balance beam, but they have pre-school and toddler/parent classes that are very low-key and fun while still teaching the basic skills that form a foundation for future advancement. My daughter and I went to the grand opening and were very impressed with the facility. Although from the outside it appears to be a bare warehouse, the inside is packed with equipment of all sizes for all ages, from wide, low padded balance beams to rings hanging from the high ceilings. One of the toddler instructors introduced herself and immediately got a high-five from my timid preschooler. I was struck by the respect and character of all the kids there who are on the team already. My daughter sometimes gets run over by big kids when she tries to play, but when these boys saw her climbing onto the trampoline they stepped aside and encouraged her to take their spot. I have a friend whose son has grown up in the program and she says the kids learn just as much about respect and integrity as they do about gymnastics. My daughter will be starting a class there soon. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful facility and staff right here in Millis!
