A terrific zoo! A most wonderful zoo among zoos! As of the time of writing this I have been to 12 zoos and this has been the most enjoyable to visit both times I went. I went once in the winter and once in the summer and both times the animals were magnificently lively. It is home to a wonderful variety of animals both large and small, including some very rare animals like the Giant Pandas and Komodo Dragons. None of which I expected after seeing the city of Memphis (I do like the city very much, but it is not exactly a gleaming international city...) Despite being one of only 4 American zoos with Giant Pandas, my favorite attraction at the Memphis Zoo is their wonderful Hippos! They are the fattest, happiest, and most active Hippos I've seen. There is currently a new Hippo exhibit being constructed that I cannot wait to see, but the old one, despite the fact it is basically a cement slab with a pool, provides great viewing and for some reason the Hippos love it there. They advertise as being the most successful American zoo at breeding Hippos and have had many born there over the years. I suggest going to see the Hippos multiple times during your visit and watching them for 10-15 minutes straight because they are always sure to provide a thrill. Whether it is yawning their unique and amazing mouths wide open, swimming, walking, showing off their impressive fat rolls, or spraying their poo everywhere to mark their territory, the Memphis Hippos never fail to entertain. The big cats section is excellent as well, with a great variety of tigers, cheetahs, leopards, snow leopards, lions, and smaller cats that are always roaring, playing, or staring at you. The Red Pandas are the most lively of any zoo I've been to as well. There is a old and kind of dingy aquarium, a cool reptile house, a nice China exhibit to accompany the Pandas, a great selection of large African animals, a nice farm/children's zoo, a free sea lion show, an Australian exhibit, and a very cool exhibit that imitates Yellowstone National Park, complete with Old Faithful! If you happen to find yourself in Memphis to see Graceland or party on Beale Street, be sure to stop by their world class zoo. You won't regret it!

For the most part, the Memphis Zoo was great. There is a large variety of animals, the pathways are kept clean, the animals seem healthy and the staff is nice. The prices are a bit up there, but I expected that. I was disappointed that one of the eateries seemed to be being renovated and other carts, the merry-go-round and one store were all closed. It was great to see the baby animals, but I noticed the elephants were rather old and for three full grown elephants, their enclosure seemed a bit small. I think we will definitely be back to visiting between March and October instead of February.

Came here with the family for the Christmas time. It was a special evening event and so bundled up BIG time! The family did enjoy this place and had a few attractions indoor to help warm you up while visiting. My kids did the camel ride, which they LOVED! I think it is a pretty good zoo for the price.

This was the best zoo I have ever been to. All of the exhibits were very well planned and executed. They have animals here I have Never seen elsewhere and if you go during the day, the trainer talks are super informative and fun. I was in town for two weeks on business and made time to go twice. Highly recommend the hippo exhibit, the grizzly and polar bear exhibits, the Komodo dragon exhibit, and penguin rock.

A great layout for a zoo, with plenty of space, enough restaurants, restrooms, benches and of course animals. I loved the way they had themes, for instance the panda where after you enter a (Chinese) temple. Or tyhe entrance is made to give the feeling of Egypt. Animals looked happy, humans even more. Only negative to me was we had to pay extra 5 dollars for parking and i don't see the reason. I would much prefer them to have it in the price for the whole ticket of the zoo than extra. Ticket was 15 dollars per adult, and after we saw everything we can easily say it worth the money.
