I am a current student and a senior at Minnesota Life College and I have love it so much. have grown as a student and as an individual. We do have our downfalls, but with me, it has been great. The staff are great and have helped me grow and learn to eat healthier.

The staff at this place are tyrants. They don't trust students with their own medications. They treat everyone like they're in high school. They hate intelligent students. They are overbearing and unfair. They don't care about students' disabilities. They lie to parents about everything. They're lazy. They are completely dishonest and terrible people. That place needs either a whole new staff or it should shut down. I was a SIP student there and it was one of the worst places I was forced to go. My parents were suckers to MLC's scam. Don't put your adult child there, ever. Like most other places, the staff there treats disabled students like the Nazis treated Jews. It's sick and unfair. They may look nice, but once you're a student there, you're screwed. DO NOT put your disabled young adult in this evil place with such evil people. They are commies with no empathy whatsoever. I mean it. I was there.

I am a recent graduate of Minnesota Life College, and I have very mixed feelings about the place. On the one hand, I learned a great deal about how to live independently and deal with my own anxiety issues, and going to MLC helped me to finally be able to get my own place and obtain a steady job that I enjoy. However, there are two major issues I have with the program. First, I find the rules to be excessively restrictive, and they have only been getting more so. New students must now obtain permission to go off campus alone, and the staff overly limit where students can go once they are allowed to go off campus (i.e. during my time there, a second year student was told by staff that he could not go to Valleyfair without his advisor's permission). There are restrictions on which students can visit which other students' apartments. Curfew has been getting earlier and earlier every year, and students now must be in their apartments by 9:45 PM on weekdays. These are only a few examples of the excessive rules, which are allegedly for the students' own safety, but there is a line between protecting someone and smothering them, and I believe MLC steps over that line with their rules. My other major issue with the program is that during my final year, I was forced to share an apartment with an abusive, contemptible individual who was generally despised by the rest of the student body for his seeming inability to behave in a civilized manner. Despite my objections, the staff pushed this arrangement on me and tried to convince me that he wasn't as bad as I thought he was and that other students were just being bullies for viewing him the way they did, despite him consistently being abusive toward myself and other students on a regular basis. It was only after another student was removed from the program that I was allowed to move to another apartment, but I believe that was too little, too late. While I was able to receive the help I needed from MLC, I believe it is a deeply flawed program that needs some changes in order to better serve the students that it is supposed to help.

MLC is a program that makes a difference. I have seen the program adapt to meet the needs of the undergraduate as well as the graduates living on their own. The changes that are seen in the young adults that attend this program are beyond explanation. From the moment that walk through the door to the day they start their job, live on their own, and become a part of their community. It is inspiring to see them full fill their potential.

MLC has been instrumental in the growth and success of my step-daughter. She was challenged with learning disabilities as a child which left her without friends and bullied in school. MLC has taught her how to be an advocate for herself, live independently, manage apartment living and face the day-to-day challenges that are easily taken for granted. I'm happy to say that she is employed, fully supports herself and has an abundance of friends! A success story indeed.
