About

Dedicated to celebrating and honoring the lives and works of talented Mississippians, who have touched the lives of so many around the world.

Story

Scheduled to open 2017, MAEC’s innovative hands-on exhibits will highlight Mississippi’s artists in every art category and A & E entrepreneurs and their contributions in their respective fields to the world. The iconic, two level structure will total approximately 58,000 square feet of which 22,000 is Hall of Fame and exhibit space organized around five themes—the land, the home, the community, the church and the people. Audio and video stories tell who, what, where, when, why and how Mississippians influenced the arts and the creative economy all over the world and continue to do so on an international level.

The Walk of Fame unveiled on February 15, 2009 continues to grow, thrive and make its way from the MSU Riley Center to the MAEC site. New Walk of Fame stars will accompany the earlier stars of Jimmie Rodgers, Sela Ward, B. B. King, Marty Stuart, William Faulkner, Morgan Freeman, Walter Anderson, Mac McAnally, Hartley Peavey and others.

Join MAEC in its efforts to showcase Mississippi's creative spirit.

"The MAX is the place to learn about all the amazing artists, musicians, actors, authors and entertainers who are from Mississippi. Set aside at least two hours to go through the galleries. Wonderful activities for children too. There is a very large store with a great selection of gifts, books, jewelry, pottery, clothing etc.Great restaurants, shops and other museums within walking distance of The MAX. One mile off I-20 makes it convenient to find."

Such a fun experience, all in a beautifully modern facility. The state of Mississippi has an incredible history of developing famous entertainers. As they state in the museum, maybe it’s because we often times have nothing more to do other than sit on the front porch, play our guitar and dream of something more. We visited during the traveling Jim Henson exhibit. However, the standing Mississippi exhibit is worth the visit alone. Exhibits were all very interactive, containing some very cool, seemingly cutting edge technology e.g. the kitchen table area highlighting local chefs and flavors. These aspects make this a great visit for kids as well. Staff was very friendly and more than willing to engage regarding local history. This is a visit every Mississippian should make, and well worth the time for any out of state visitor wanting to learn more about an often misunderstood part of our country.
Amazing museum! Super interactive, informative, and fun! I very much enjoyed my visit and encourage any who are in Meridian to stop and check it out. One of the most modern museums I have visited! Ample spots to sit and enjoy the ambiance of the museum. Suitable for a wide variety of ages too.
Visited this place and it is really nice and well displayed. The ladies at the desk were super friendly and helpful. Made us feel really welcomed. Well worth the money.
I absolutely love the Maxx! Not only are the displays amazing to look at, but the wealth of knowledge, the history that is offered, is astonishing in itself. The Terrace is also wonderful to walk out on, sit and relax, enjoy the cool breeze and share the moment with friends, family!
Opened in April 2018. Honors artists from all fields from Mississippi. Elvis, Faulkner, Grisham, Oprah, Morgan Freeman, BB King, Muddy Waters, and many more. Who knew Ms has so many world renowned artists. Great facility, lots to see and do. Plan on spending several hours to see it all!
