Visited back in May A very good museum. Highly informative and educational, and presented in a very engaging manner. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in Jackson; you can easily spend a couple of hours here. Quick thing to point out is that we had to ring the doorbell to be let in. If the door for whatever reason is shut, it's well worth doing that!

Exhibits are smart, experiential and visceral. You can step inside the dark, crowded hold of a slave ship or sit on the "porch" listening to Medgar Evers's parents tell their stories. A VERY important museum to visit at this time when white supremacy is resurging in politics and KKK violence is on the rise!

A very good experience and we learned a lot. Also, thank you to the friendly staff that share their knowledge and answer any questions one may have.

A good museum reflecting African American culture and the struggle for civil rights. There are several engaging displays and collections. Well worth your time to check out.

We really enjoyed this manageable sized and informative museum. Very educational! Good overviews of slavery in the south, the civil rights movement in MS, and first hand accounts of how freed black southerners, survived, struggled to obtain an education, or moved north for better opportunities for their children.
