This is a wonderful place we happened upon as we were in the area. It was worth the stop as the short hike through the forest was beautiful, informative and peaceful. Seeing the large pieces of petrified wood in their natural location along with details from the guide book was interesting. The displays they had indoors are a rich variety of rocks, petrified woods and others. Although they are in one room, I have seen specimens I had not seen in rock collections found in larger museums. The staff are also cordial, helpful and a pleasure to interact with.

I always hear mixed reviews on this longstanding Mississippi attraction, but the rock-loving nerd in me LOVES this place. The walk through the woods is so peaceful, and it's amazing to see petrified wood and learn how it formed over centuries. The gift shop has some really neat rocks and gems, jewelry, housewares, and novelty items. My kids love the rock candy, and I love the incense burners and cool one-of-a-kind jewelry. Prices are very reasonable, and there's usually a Groupon to save even more, if you use that service. Allow 1-2 hours to experience this attraction. Tent camping sites also available on-site.

You start your journey in the gift shop where you leave through a back door with a pamphlet that describes each of the attraction that is labeled by numbers. The trail is about a quarter of a mile and is both paved and unpaved. At the end of the trail there is a museum with all sorts of fossils, petrified trees, different types of rocks and other unique artifacts. My favorite part of this attraction was the gift shop they have a huge selection of artifacts, rocks, art, jewelry, and pottery that can be purchased at a reasonable price.

I had a nice time with family. It was a rainy day but time well spent. Don't expect too much from the place. This place has lot of woods may be million years old, fossils etc.
