Have always had good experiences shopping here. ACE, the helpful place. And they really are. If they see you walking aimlessly they will ask you if you need help and point you in the direction or find someone that can. Oh and you get popcorn while walking around he store.

Usually helpful people and I am in & out in a jiffy; last time check out lines were backed up and slower than molasses. Made a dash for the key kiosk but some old guy beat me to it, refused to acknowledge me with two items I held in my hand. He had lumber without prices and I knew it was going to be an ordeal. Put my stuff down and left.

On Sat., Aug 12 at 11 am the paint department was abandoned. After standing at the paint counter with another customer and wandering aimlessly looking for employees, I found one! But alas, paint was too much for him to handle. After calling on his walkie for help, still no one showed. I then called the store while standing in the paint department. After asking for help in paint, I was on hold for nearly 5 minutes, with the call bounced back and forth 3 times with no answer. Why didn't a manager answer the paint call, either in person or on the phone? Again, is paint so complicated that the managers can't cross train to cover staff shortages? And why the short staff on a Saturday? Seems like this store is a machine and has stopped caring as much about the "legendary customer service" stu and meg preach. Damn shame really. Off to the box store where at least they man the paint department

I LOVE the Ace Hardware stores in Missoula.  The staff is always friendly.  They have most stuff I need.  They stock more than just hardware - Canning, beekeeping supplies, cooking stuff, QUALITY dog food, Hunting stuff, ETC ETC.  And of course they have the biggest selection of fasteners, screws, bolts, specialty fasteners etc around.  You might pay a tiny bit more on SOME stuff (Less for other stuff, same for most), but I'm more than willing to pay that for the level of customer service they provide.  There is always a staff member available to help you.
