Story

We are an independent, non-profit, progressive, co-educational school located in Montclair, New Jersey. The school enrolls children from nursery through eighth grade. Founded in 1963, it is one of a handful of cooperative schools nationwide.

Mission

The Montclair Cooperative School is a community of students, teachers, and parents who are dedicated to creating a diverse and nurturing environment where children flourish intellectually and where they develop exceptional social skills along with a deep sense of community responsibility.

This school is one that you will never forget

We’ll never forget our first visit to the Co-op.  Eight years ago we went to an open house to learn about the Co-op and knew instantly, this was the place for our child, and in truth, ourselves.  The dedication of each faculty and staff member is unmatched.  The passion to teach and share what the world has to offer is unlike anything we’ve witnessed in our own educations, or that of other schools.  The emphasis on social curriculum is critical in our far more complicated world.  This is an environment where children love to learn, want to explore, look forward to taking risks and celebrate their role in making the world around them, a better place.
