Avoid at all costs. Everyone is confused and unorganized. The doctors just come around once every twenty four hours and ask the same questions over and over. Test results take days, literally. None of the nurses were skilled enough to find a vein and so they left my arm with bruises all over. There's a stupid pump mechanism that is so sensitive (or broken) on their iv pole that constantly malfunctions. The incessant beeping allowed no rest at all. Anytime you ask the staff for anything, they happily say "yes of course" and then seemingly fall off the face of the earth, so I have to constantly re-request which makes me (the patient) seem like a pain in the butt. Overall, I wish I went somewhere else.

Overnight nurses and doctors treated me with respect and care. Took forever to be taken to a room for overnight observation even though my arthritis symptoms had passed and I should have been sent home. Day nurse, James, was a complete ass. He rushed in and out. Wouldn't answer basic questions. I barely would ask him something and he would rush out to get someone else to answer it and wouldn't come back to see if I had any other questions. Then I overheard him blaming me for not having asked a question about getting my property back from security. And he still hasn't come to check back on me. Last time I saw him was 1:30. It's now 4:00p.

This concerns the ER. 12 days ago after 3 miserable days of a gastrointestinal illness, symptoms included cramps, nausea, extreme diarrhea and extreme fatigue, I walked the 5 blocks to the emergency room. It was a Sunday morning so very quiet, they saw me right away and though the admitting staff was brusque and curt I didn't care, I needed relief and a diagnosis. I was seen by two interns and an attending physician and after very basic blood work, a gallbladder imaging and two bags of saline they sent me home, "You have a virus and you have to work through it" I asked for a stool test and they said they didn't need it. "It's viral". That cost me a $100 co-pay. 9 days later, still very ill, I go to my doctor who immediately gave me two stool sample kits and told me to return them as soon as possible, also putting me on Cipro that day. He also did much more extensive blood testing. He had a feeling immediately I had either a bacterial or parasitic infection. Two days later (today) the results tested positive for Giardia, a parasitic infection. This is my complaint: If the ER had simply done a stool sample I would have been treated and more than likely better in a week rather than adding more than a week onto not only my illness, but my ability to possibly transmit this horribly virulent illness to my family and those around me. My doctor said right away, "The ER doesn't want to do things like stool samples, too involved. They want you out of there." Well, by getting me out of there not only was I sick much longer and out of the workforce, but highly contagious to people I am close to. Is that good care? Possibly facilitating a breakout of a parasitic infection in the name of expediency? I checked with the Dept. of Health and they said they hear this all the time about ER's in NYC - very basic testing, no stool samples, get people our of there as fast as possible. A sad state when hospitals possibly facilitate an wider outbreak instead of stopping it. I've lost at least 8 pounds and many days of work. Thanks a lot Mt. Sinai. For truly nothing.

I was very skeptical of taking my mother to Saint Luke West. I had no choice one night. From the emergency room to 8th floor 8E were the nicest group of staff, nurses and doctors. Thank you very much. Fogarty George
