The Murphy-Wilmot Branch Library was the third library built in Tucson, opening for business on Sept. 21, 1965. The architects, Nicholas Sakellar & Associates, created a modern space inspired by desert settings. The firm & branch won a biennial national architectural award for "distinguished accomplishment in library architecture." Dino Sakellar, Nicholas Sakellar's son, designed an addition for the library in 1983 & also designed the recent renovations.
