Always a nice place to be. Admission is reasonably priced for what you are seeing. There are no massively famous exhibits but that's not really to be expected in a museum with its focus The gallery is clean, quiet and well maintained. It's security is nice as they are relaxed and never breath down your neck. I'd recommend budgeting about 3 hours to see almost everything in moderate depth. It has a moderate focus on the group of seven and the 3 other famous Canadian artists which isn't to my taste exactly but if you like them then this is your place to be

We're from Kingston, Ontario and don't feel we've received full benefits from our federal taxes unless we've made at least one annual visit to Ottawa. And at the top of our list of places to visit is the National Gallery of Canada. The Gallery is always so spectacular to see resting on its own plaza and so near to the Parliament buildings. The architecture is beautiful with all the vertical sections of stone and glass. Once inside, you climb a long tall ramp to large circular space. The ceiling is so far above you that you feel like ant when you sit down. Through all the glass, you see the Parliament buildings again but also with great views of the Ottawa River and the City. It's a wonderful place to have lunch on occasions when it being served. If not, there is a spacious cafeteria which also has great views as well as more selection. From there, you walk down a long tall hallway and then enter the galleries and the current exhibitions. On our most recent visit, we were thrilled to see some of the most recognizable work Group of Seven.

Student admission was pretty cheap, like 8$ if I recall correctly. The art was great (there was a Klimt) and the contemporary sections were breathtaking. The gift shop had a good variety of things (art socks!) and the building itself had nice architecture.

Amazing gallery! Free after 5 on thursdays. Always a good time and nice to see. On this particular visit I met a really friendly security guard and he had some really great advice on what to check out. Wish I got his name! Shout out to that guy!

There are lot of great art in here. Many different exhibitions. Some of the paintings are exquisite, if you start following the brush strokes you can get lost for hours, trying to imagine the creation of the painting. Great way to spend the day. You need to be interested in art or willing to learn. If you are just here to take a look around you may not like it as much, still you will enjoy the space. The space itself is extremely large and just the shear architecture will mesmerize you. I can just come here and sit my day through. You should definitely visit if you have the time.
