I went for a broken shoulder and I saw a nurse practitioner. She did not believe me that it was broken even though I could not lift my arm. Then the x Ray came back. I had a broken shoulder. So she referred me to UNC and offered me Motrin.

When I arrived there was not a long wait and there was barely anyone in the waiting room. I am rating this two stars because when I was called to meet with the triage nurse there was no sense of discretion. I felt like I was telling my business in front of the whole world. Also once I described my symptoms the triage nurse immediately said "oh yeah you have ...." . Mind you its not her job to diagnose me. She said it loud enough for others to hear and with a "shame on you" expression on her face. I was already frantic and she had no type of sympathy for my condition. Also the Nurse Practitioner (Not doctor) who saw me had the same "shame on you" expression when she gave me a diagnosis that she was not sure of. She was also very judgmental. I guess because I wasn't shot or two seconds from dying my situation was not important enough. I shouldn't leave a hospital feeling ashamed for being sick.

They suck,if I could give them no stars I would. First they ask questions that don't relate to the reason for your visit. Staff is rude and no one tells you what's going on. They all look confused when it comes to an real emergency. You see 25+ different nurses and doctors. If you have diabetes,I advise not to come they gone treat you like a test dummy. Worst hospital in New Orleans.

If you can make it to a different hospital, go somewhere else. UMC is newer and cleaner and chances are you'll be shipped out there anyways if you need any level of care higher than what a primary care physician could provide.

Dangerous place to be if you have a REAL emergency. Mother went in with complaints of facial swelling, jaw and shoulder pain. She was nervous and upset because she had just lost her own mother to an illness a few weeks earlier. while talking with her on my cell trying to comfort her as she waited to see the doctor, I noticed an hour had almost passed. I then called the ER to try and find out how long it would take before a doctor would come in to assess her. The nurse was rude and short with me and begin to explain to me that there were 27 patients and only one doctor. She said my mother was a level 4 emergency and that there were level 2 and level 3 emergencies before her. Then she says, just to let you know in this area an ER wait time is 8 hrs. I explained to her that I work at another hospital in the area and our ER wait time is not 8 hrs. I told her I did not know what she meant by "area." I explained to her that I wanted to know so that i could advise my mother to stay or leave. She then says she will pass my concerns on to my mom's doctor and nurse. Since I did not trust her to do this, I decided to contact patient advocate for the hospital. I searched the internet for the patient advocate number and called them. A lady answers the phone with "Hello." She did not identify herself or her department. I asked who am I speaking with. She responds "Who are you calling for?" I said I would like to speak with the Patient Advocate Department. She says this is patient advocate. I asked again, Who am I speaking with. She then says Daphne (first name only). Once I explained to her what happened she went to the ER while on the phone with me to address it. At the same time, the doctor was already in the room with my mother. The doctor gave my mother prednisone and pepsid pills. ( This is what mom said) I then heard Ms Daphne come into the room and greet my mother very kindly. Ms Daphne then made a f/u call to me about an hour later to let me know she checked. I told her I was on the phone with mom whe n she came in. I thanked her for "checking." I was not impressed at all. I would've much rather her write a report and hold the staff accountable for their lack of care and professionalism. Then again, how could she when she herself answers the phone like she is at her own home instead of a hospital. This is another sad case of total disrespect for the community you claim you are here to serve. New Orleans East deserves much BETTER! One star is what I give. Even though the system gave 3
