About

Orleans Integrative Medicine integrates modern medicine with the best alternatives.

Story

Orleans Integrative Medicine (OIM) is a collaborative team of health care professionals. OIM was born out of frustration of seeing patients struggle with the barriers in the health care system.

Our team combines different forms of treatments to bridge the gap between modern medicine and the best alternatives. We are a fusion of modern medicine, manual medicines including chiropractic manipulations, soft tissue techniques, acupuncture, natural supplementation and nutritional counselling.

We are part of the newest, and most effective model of healthcare, called Integrative Medicine.

The World Health Organization said it best; “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

Dr. Desrosiers is an excellent physician - but she is just a physician, and clearly has no aptitude or oversight with Customer Relationship Management (in this case patient). The current service model her practice utilizes is appalling and is only upheld by the fact that we are in a public health care system. If this was a private-based company, they’d be bankrupt several times over. The most irritating component of this practice is that there is no notification by the Orleans Integrative Medicine staff for any changes to the practice's service model. For example, they are no longer giving patients reminder calls for their physicals. This practice has implemented a high-volume service model (e.g., more patients = more OHIP billing), and appointments now need to be made at least 6-9 months in advance. I don’t blame them for this, because a successful doctor now needs to be entrepreneurial on top of being an excellent physician. However, an appointment that distant in the future should warrant a reminder call to the patient, like your dentist office does (my dentist even uses text-message reminders). Orleans Integrative Medicine thought it would be “best” to remove this reminder call service from its practice without notifying its patients. Smart right? I was told it was in their new “agreement” with its patients. An agreement implies that both parties have signed to agreed upon terms, and I definitely didn’t sign anything stating that I’m about to be willing inconvenienced. The practice also offers walk-in hours which is an excellent feature on paper; however, they do not notify you when a doctor is no longer available. For instance, a few months ago my wife and I left work early to use the practice’s walk-in hours only to find out that Dr. Desrosiers was on a conference call for the afternoon and was no longer seeing patients. Their website even has an embedded Twitter feed (which they haven’t used since December 2016 by the way), and instead of using this tool to inform the clients of physician availability changes, they simply neglect to mention that you as a patient are about to be inconvenienced. They offer the minimum when it comes to apologizing for wasting your time as a patient but they’ll gladly reschedule you – the only caveat is that you need to wait at least 6 months. Even the staff is improperly trained for basic clinical procedures. Height and weight should be measured with your shoes off - they don't tell you to remove them, and as a result this will affect other clinical indicators, such as a BMI calculation. Waist circumference should be measured directly on the skin at the mid-point between the last floating rib and top of the iliac crest. The staff quickly puts a tape around you with your clothes on, and I doubt are following standardized procedures. Blood pressure should be taken after a patient has been seated for at least 5 minutes; again, this standard measurement is not adhered to or properly implemented here. All of these things are inter-related; there is a general neglect towards doing things properly that would benefit the patient. If you value your health and subscribe to the prevention mindset, instead of waiting until it’s too late, leave this practice now and find a physician who values his/her patients in totality – not just for how much they can bill OHIP for.

I am proud to say that I am a patient of Dr. Sabine Anani. Her communication skills and chiropractic/acupuncture treatments have met my expectations to the highest degree. The full-time receptionist in this office is also very friendly and effective. The online appointment scheduler allows patients to book on the internet... this is awesome! Whenever I need more treatments, I will not hesitate to call your office! Thank you Dr. Anani... your assistance was much appreciated!!!

Sabine has been the best chiropractor I have worked with over the years. Not only is she knowledgable, but she's not afraid to share her knowledge with her patients. She takes you step by step and tells you what she is doing with your body. She then tells you what to do if the situation occurs again and how to rid yourself of the problem faster. This was extremely helpful for me, especially because I'm a performer and get myself in tight situations frequently. I would especially recommend Sabine to Actors/Dancers, because she has a background in the arts and thus understands what type of movement you work with. On top of that she uses performance based terminology that other chiropractors don't use/don't understand. (A lot of her terminology co-insides with Alexander Technique Practice and will work hand in hand with your personal training.) Impressive Sabine, very impressive!
