During Sandy a huge tree fell on my house. They agreed to pay for the damage to the house, but not the damage to the fence and retaining wall. The property has deteriorated tremendously because of it, and I cannot afford to do it myself. SHAME

For the third year in a row, we have been inspected, renewed, paid in full, then cancelled within a week of renewal. We appeal, they inspect again, then they reinstate. Fairplan is supposed to be the safety net for people who cannot get insurance elsewhere. NYPIUA treats those of us who require them with the utmost disrespect. The new head of Underwriting has no idea what the mission of the organization is. He told us he would cancel our insurance for refusing an inspection when we informed him that his inspector had failed to make an appearance. The NYS Dept of Finance that is supposed to oversee them turns a blind eye to their incompetence and malfeasance.

I have had a policy with this company for several years. Of course everything was fine until I had to file a claim. I submitted complete documentation of the repairs (including cancelled checks) had the adjuster visit twice. I had to pay out of pocket. Finally, NY Underwriters say they sent a check. Two weeks later no check (they said "we did our part, blame the post office") . Finally they agreed to put a stop payment on the first check and overnight a replacement check. This was on Wednesday 12/30/14. It is now Saturday the 2nd. No check (these people make the expression "check is in the mail" really come to life) If I ever get paid for my claim, I will be happy to change this review. Right now I don't even know if they are legit
