I pulled both my kids out of public school to go here and to have a new kind of experience; more in alignment with a college type setting. It worked.! Both are in College! I was able to help track my students online which made my parental assistance more meaningful. There are Great Teachers, Principal, staff and life coaches here who genuinely care and get to know each student individually. Thank you all at NexTech High School! GT

If I could rate this school with NO stars I would. It was a horrible experience. I chose this school due to my child having been bullied in public schools, I dealt with that situation but was in a position to try something different and chose this school. Worst decision in my life. When school first began I noticed the secretary had a big mouth, she divulged information about other parents and later on would make comments about the teachers and the principle that were not professional. I gave her a wide girth. As the school year went on there were numerous disruptions in my child's classroom by other students who were put in a position to defend themselves against a homeroom teacher that ended up being a nightmare! I think 4 or more families left the first year, I tried a second year and it was even worse. A couple of times this homeroom teacher, a woman, tried to pop off to my child, with no avail, mind you my child was a 4.0 student prior to coming here and stayed a 4.0 student although due to stress I had to pull him out, he wasn't a disciplinary problem either, I was told over and over again how much of a model student he was. This teacher was just a control freak. I started making complaints to the principle because this teacher was so inappropriate I was ready to go to the superintendent. When I did this, a cluster started between teachers helping my child, due to them witnessing this woman's inappropriate and unprofessional behavior not only with students but with her own co-workers. I had teachers telling me things that this woman would say regarding how she would not "go out of her way" to help my child, caught her and her social worker buddy friend in a huge lie, although I brought in documentation from a doctor that he had acute anxiety disorder, these ass-hats kept the drama going for no reason, other than to exert some kind of sick control. Eventually, after I kept complaining and kept getting inside information from other teachers about the unprofessional nature of this school, and witnessing how the principle was super ineffective and constantly being told by one of the teachers he would be! I just pulled him out in the middle of the semester and never looked back. I wish I had filed some kind of a complaint against them, but I was tired. I did check with the superintendent and found out another parent had filed a HUGE complaint against NEXUS and this teacher but was not told the details. To me, teachers are here to support, coach and assist children in being the best they can be. They had a 4.0 student, no other issues were present, how could you treat someone's child like this for no apparent reason?? Not bright at all. ( I am aware that I did not go into detail about the nature of the harassment, but he was constantly harassed by this teacher.) I am not going to say I DON'T recommend nexus because each family will have their own story, however, I DO recommend that you keep an eye on your child, the teachers, how they are treated and if need be document everything professionally or otherwise! Every child deserves to be treated with respect, not jerked around by immature, 21-28 year old ass-hats who have control issues. Lastly, allow me to share with you some other very real issues: 1. Kids fondly one another in homeroom or in the bathroom 2. Kids getting busted smoking pot 3. Kids fighting 4. Kids threatening other kids and teachers/cursing at teachers and principle 5. Kids kissing in homeroom/laying on one another 6. Kids leaving the school to walk to McDonald's 7. The principle not doing weapons checks like they stated they would in orientation 8. Kids engaging in racist, sexist and demoralizing conversations during school You may think this is a smear campaign, it is not. These things happened while my child attended this school. Where is the supervision?! I want my child to learn, be supported, respected, not bullied by teachers, be pulled into teachers gripes or gossip and have a safe place to engage with other students. It was just a horrible experience all around. GOOD LUCK.

My daughter's experience at Nexus has been great! She is really bright, yet isn't the typical "good student" in behavior (ie: quiet or demure) or appearance (she has piercings and pink hair). She is a true individual and public school was not a good fit for her. Nexus allows her to get instruction, get help, have some social time and get work done without all the "ridiculousness" and pressures of public school: cliques, classroom instruction being slowed down by a few students (because of behavior or lack of understanding) , and lack of "tailoring needs" to each student (the same lesson plan for 120 students). The "mass-produced" model of public school just doesn't fit our society anymore! At Nexus, each student can achieve THEIR goals, as one of the other reviewers said. I've found the Success Coaches and College advisor to be very helpful and very willing to modify to a "block" schedule, instead of having 6 subject lessons in one day. Yes, there are some students that have struggled and this may be their "last chance" as one reviewer has said, but they have a MUCH better chance of success here, than remaining in public school. All I know is that my daughter was not doing well in public school and has thrived and gotten excited about a college future by going to Nexus, and isn't that what every parent wants for their child?
