About

Nina Jewelry is a family tradition dating back to 1897, where you'll find something special for that special someone in your life.

Story

Located in the picturesque Green Mountains of Southern Vermont, nestled at the base of Mount Equinox, you will find a beautiful New England village named Manchester. The area is a shopping mecca that combines quaint local shops with the glamorous names of 5th Avenue; Eileen Fisher, Kate Spade and Ralph Lauren. Here you will find a jewelry store that has a family tradition dating back to 1897.

The family business was started by Nina’s grandfather while in the carriage trade of New York City. To accommodate with the changing times, the store relocated to the Bronx where it was run by Nina’s brother. In 1982, Nina and Ray Mohr opened Nina Jewelry in Factory Point Square. It was there in a tiny shop that Nina’s established a pricing policy never before tried by a quality jeweler.

The average jeweler sells their jewelry at a profit of 100-300%. The Nina Jewelry Shop of Manchester, Vermont chooses to sell quality jewelry at a lower profit. Also, Nina’s sells diamonds like no one else sells diamonds. So, if you’re looking for a special diamond for that special someone in your life, we will give you a half hour of our time and walk you through the 4 C’s of diamonds and how they relate to that all important 5th C- cost.

It is with this philosophy, and a strong advertising campaign, that Nina’s moved to its larger current location on Routes 11 & 30. Housed inside a white brick colonial, you will find a family and two dogs working together to make the experience of purchasing fine jewelry a pleasure.

Knowledgable staff. Attentive. But missing a personalized feel. I was there to spend a lot of money but I didn't get a warm feeling. Quality jewels.

It's hard to imagine the other two past reviewers are talking about the same place. Every interaction we have had with Nina and her talented staff has been OUTSTANDING! We first came upon Nina Jewelry by chance since my engagement ring was too big and we needed a temporary solution while on vacation in Vermont in 2012. We were greeted warmly immediately. They understood our problem and gave us a little piece of plastic tubing that was perfect for keeping the ring snug on my hand. They didn't even charge us for it! The next year, we returned to Vermont a few weeks before our wedding and had had such poor luck finding a quality jeweler at reasonable prices in Boston that we decided to come back to Nina Jewelry. They took such good care of us! Their service, quality and prices are unbelievable. They did an amazing job with my wedding ring, my husband-to-be's wedding ring (a pretty complicated job they did even better than we had hoped for) and a pair of lovely earrings they customized for me--so many choices of settings and backs! They even engraved my engagement ring on the house! They were meticulous about recording every detail we asked for and delivered to the letter (and beyond!). When they shipped us back our custom jewelry, they included a thoughtful and warm hand-written note--such a kind touch! We are so happy we went back and hope to see them again next time we visit! Thank you, Nina and family! We are so happy to have crossed paths with you and wish you many continued years of success!

A few years back, I failed to provide a size for the engagement ring I had Nina make, unable to reach me, I was faced with this crisis at time of delivery. To make matters worse, I was on my way to propose in Boston. Nina jumped in his car and drove to have it sized immediately, and arranged to meet me in Bennington. It was still warm when i got it. What jeweler does that? Nina did!

I ended up going to Ninas in Manchester on a Rainy Saturday this Winter with my girlfriend. This was a place that for years my grandparents raved about, between the customer service and the quality of product that Nina and her husband had put out. Apparently, all that's out the door with her sister, daughter and son in-law now running the show. Showed up mid afternoon with literally no one else in the entire store. I was inquiring about trading/selling several items of gold and diamonds that I had acquired over the years. I had planned on using the trade in value towards a new yellow gold bracelet to match the necklace I had inherited from my recently deceased grandfather. I have been to several other jewelers in the Capital Region of NY (Mayfair, Hannoush, etc) and had been offered a significant amount of money towards a trade in for a bracelet that would match my necklace. Although most other jewelers did not have this style of bracelet in they had said they would be more then willing to order it for me. And they were able to provide me an price on the yellow gold bracelet of my choice. Ninas on the other hand offered me significantly less for my diamonds/gold (to the tune of almost 300 dollars), and seemed even less willing to even get me a price of a yellow gold bracelet of my choice. I was told by one staff member that they would "call down to NYC on Monday and give me a call to let me know what they could find" - shockingly enough I did not receive a phone call on Monday. I'm not really sure how all these other prominent jewelers were able to find this rather non-unique bracelet style and be able to quote me on a price when Ninas was not. The worst part of the whole experience is while waiting the approximate 30 minutes for them to go through their books searching for the bracelet style I was looking for - my girlfriend and I were browsing around the store looking at diamond engagement rings, etc. While her and I were talking about the style of rings she liked we were very quietly asked if we liked anything they would be willing to pull it out from display for us - I made eye contact with the saleswomen and said thanks but we are all set. She then very sarcastically said "ok then" under her breath, rolled her eyes and walked away as if we were wasting their time. At that point I had enough and we collected the jewelry I was looking at selling and walked out. It's also willing to note that the interior of the store looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. Smudge marks all over the glass on both the top and bottom floors. Something as simple as cleaning the glass in your store on a slow day is something that I would imagine would be an easy fix but at Ninas it was not. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Our trip was a total disaster and ironically enough as I've spoken to other Jewelers while bracelet shopping they were not surprised with our negative experience.

We worked with Nina for our wedding jewelry and were pleased with the diamonds, but not the settings/bands. My custom wedding band didn't look anything like the samples previously shown (including a wax design). As a result, we had to scramble less than a week before our wedding to have another jeweler fix the wedding band. Their reaction to our disappointment was not what you would expect from a quality jeweler. We would never work with them again.
