I have been wanting to try Notch8 for over a year now as I always pass by it on the way to work. Since it was Dine Out and also my birthday weekend, I figured it was the perfect time to check it out. I tried to book online but it required a $50 CC deposit to secure the reservation. Instead, I called and made the reservation over the phone which didn't require a CC on file. I mentioned it was my birthday and that I would like to be sat near the live music if possible. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and also sat promptly by the hostess. The restaurant decor was lovely and had a nice atmosphere, especially with the live music. However, our table was sat quite far away, in another section of the restaurant, far away from the music. This was disappointing since it was one of the reasons I chose the restaurant. We were also sat at a large table for 6 even though there was only 2 of us. This seemed to confuse our server since she began to pour waters for the whole table until I told her it was just the two of us, which she seemed a bit annoyed about. We ordered our drinks and about 5-10 minutes later, our server came back and said we were given old menus and that the drink I ordered no longer existed. I changed my order. My drink came out first and after 5 minutes, my partner's beer came. I ordered from the Dine Out menu, 3 courses for $49 and my partner ordered the chicken as well as the Notch8 bread appetizer. Our appetizers came out and the french onion soup which I substituted for the Potato Leek soup was delicious but the bread was very bland and definitely not worth the price. We had to ask for butter as it was quite dry, Our mains came a little while later. Both our entrees, the Arctic Char and Chicken were so underwhelming as well as bland. There was no salt or pepper on the table and we were not offered pepper for our meal, although I noticed other tables were. We were not quality checked until after our meal was finished. My partner did not finish his red cabbage as it was just not good. I had the profiterole for dessert and it was nice. From my prior experiences while going out for my birthday at a nice restaurant, the staff often do something for birthdays, even if it is just writing happy birthday on the plate, however, this was not the case. I understand it was a Friday night and during Dine Out but the restaurant was not very busy. We were there for almost 3 hours and coupled with the mediocre service and underwhelming food, it was just an overall disappointing experience. I hope this was a one off and that the restaurant and staff were just having an off day. I do not think I will return to this establishment and I would caution others as well, since it is easy for tourists and others alike to be drawn to Notch8 due to it's location and promise of 'fine dining.' There are better restaurants in the area, which offer better food and better service.
Staying at the hotel and stopped in for lunch. As with most restaurants, we like to try all of the appetizers and small dishes instead of the mains as there is always more thought and care put into the creation of them. We had a very pleasant surprise by everything we ordered, including the notch8 bread. Highly recommend the chilled cucumber and butter milk soup.
We came here for the Lunar New Year High Tea and we were impressed with the decorated tea room and ambience. They brought the scones out first, and waited for us to finish that before the rest of the items came out. I wish we took the scones to go instead of eating them first, as we got too full to finish the rest of the items - we ended up taking the desserts to go. We were told by our server to eat the savory items first as they were nice and warm, but unfortunately everything was cold. The flavors were good, but we do wish the savory items were hot. Overall, a great experience!
Had fun and enjoyed our meal last night. We had the 3 course meal , steak, chicken . The ambiance was good , there was live person singing and it was overall a nice family affair. Would recommend this to anyone wanting to have a good time but not rushed. The prices although yes expensive is already to comparable to all other resto that are casual . I love that we booked ahead and made reservation as most of the time is all fully booked.
Had an amazing time at the Sunday brunch with my family Our server was friendly, thoughtful, very attentive- possibly the best server I’ve met in Vancouver! The food selection was great as well. Loved the assortment of hot and cold dishes, the dessert Chocolate cake!! and peeled fruits The coffee is delicious too!
We came for afternoon tea. The savoury items were… not the best but the desserts were amazing. Very nice decor. Good service. Our waiter the gentleman in the chess set room was 10/10. Tea was really nice. Thank you
This was my second time this year for High Tea and as usual it was fabulous, each time the theme has been different and the decor matches the theme perfectly. Our waiter was super attentive, friendly and all around great guy. The food has been great each time and you definitely get enough to feel full. I will definitely be back again. Parking: There is a parkade located right across from the Hotel.
Lunar New Year Afternoon Tea I’ve been to a couple of the teas experiences at various fairmont locations. There is plenty of different dishes to fill you up. There tends to be more sweet than savoury dishes. The menu is set, but I’m sure they could probably accommodate for dietary restrictions. I really enjoyed the Lunar New Year themed. The ambiance and dish selection was pretty spot on to the occasion. The space is intimate but spacious enough to cater to bigger groups. Although the place was full, it wasn’t noisy. Tip - each person chose a different tea to try and you can share as you get your own teapot with unlimited hot water refills. I’m looking forward to attending more themed based tea experiences. I’m never disappointed with experiences at the Fairmonts.
We decided to come for the Valentine's special and it went beyond our expectations. We knew the menu in advance, but we got so many unexpected extras! The food was delicious and the presentaion of dishes aesthetic. The staff was so kind and they did their best to help us to make our night lovely. The highlight was the BLACK SESAME ICE CREAM SANDWICH, it is just amazing. Definively we would go back.
This restaurant is beautifully nested in the lobby of the hotel. Elegant decors and impeccable service. Came here for a weekend breakfast and seating times could be long but definitely worth the wait. The manager was very accommodating when we requested to switch tables. I am very pleased with the food and their coffee was truly good.
