I found my best friend here. She is the smartest dog I have ever had.I will go back & try to find a blue staffshire terrier ( purebred pitbull ) eventually.

My husband and I found the sweetest, best dog at Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. As soon as we saw his picture posted by a friend (from their website), we drove all the way from Nashville to get him. Our sweet Dingo (known as Skid) had been nursed back to health by the veterinarian working with the Oak Ridge Shelter. He was still missing hair, red and scaly, but he was much better than he was. We continued his treatment with our veterinarian. He is now a beautiful, happy boy. Thank you, Oak Ridge Animal Shelter.

I recently moved to Oak Ridge and was looking to volunteer at this shelter to replace the old shelter I used to volunteer at. The lady I was put in contact with was rude and uninviting. Totally unhelpful and most certainly unprofessional. I was trying to do something good for the animals and it seems like the people who work there don't want any help. I will be volunteering at another shelter in the area.

I have adopted many pets from this shelter over the last 26 years and some of my experiences were good. Years ago, I had to return an overly rambunctious puppy before he destroyed everything I had. The staff (who weren't dressed like Nazis the way they dress now) was very understanding about taking him back. He was quickly adopted by a farmer. Today, I was forced to return a cat I adopted four years ago because I have to go into senior housing and can't keep him. I tried to find someone to take him and thought I did, but the woman backed out at the last minute. I called the shelter to let them know I was returning a cat. The young woman I spoke with was not only shockingly rude and refused to take him back, she accused me of violating federal law by not keeping up with his annual shots! I couldn't believe it. I explained my situation and said that I really didn't want to dump my neutered, declawed cat off in the woods, but I would have to if they wouldn't take him. The girl begrudgingly agreed to take him, but she was obviously angry. She demanded that I give them a pet carrier to keep him in. Apparently, they have a new policy where they don't put animals down any more, so now they are busting at the seems with unwanted animals. Why would they make a policy like that and not think this would happen and come up with a plan? When I took my cat back to the shelter, I was surprised to find three uniformed shelter employees (dressed like police officers) managing the place. It was clear they had been discussing me and my cat (too many employees, too little to do). The young woman I spoke with on the phone was especially rude, demanding that I produce my drivers license so she could take down my personal information and made me answer a lot of intrusive questions. I gave her my pet carrier, a bag of cat food and my cat's litter box and left that place feeling threatened and violated.
