Story

Ohev Sholom - The National Synagogue is the oldest Orthodox Synagogue in DC. We are firmly committed to the principles of Orthodoxy, namely an unwavering commitment to Halakhah—Jewish law. At the same time, we embrace modernity within the framework of Halakhah.

We are also deeply committed to the spirituality of welcoming. Thus, we welcome you into our congregation even if your current relationship with Judaism is different - secular, observant, or unaffiliated.

Recently, our community has seen a major renaissance, with many couples - young and old - moving in to the neighborhood in Shephard Park, DC, and downtown Silver Spring, MD, both within walking distance.
