The Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe has been in existence since 1995. We started our 20th year in April 2015. We are a musical venue that supports Live Original Music! A beautiful night. A yearly homage to Townes VanZandt, a truly great literary figure who gave us art we can participate in. Once a year we gather to revel in his exquisite song writing. A sweet euphoria of lyrics and melody.

It has been some time since I was last with Janet & Wrecks at the Old Quarter. I read that they'd put it on the market. I hope against hope that the person who buys it, or bought it, knows its true value. It is not merely a bar featuring live acoustic musicians, it is a living place, a faithful tribute to a friendship, one man faithful to the memory of the Old Quarter in Houston, and to the memory of Townes Van Zandt. Know this as you enter and you will feel it. Wrecks is a Texas music legend, honoured as such, the trophy to prove it, although it must be said that the only time I saw the trophy was just after Wrecks had accepted it. He is somehow custodian of a piece of music history, not that he would say that, nor anything close. Most everything Wrecks says when 'on' is more Henny Youngman than it is anything else. There's a joke always playing about his lips. I'm very fortunate to have had the chance to meet him and Janet, his anchor and love. Please be mindful of the fact that the little bar on 20th is more than the sum of its parts. And it's cash only.
