Jumbo Fish = Yes!!! Delicious! If you are ever in town, you must stop by this Pittsburgh staple. This place has been around for over 100 years! Owner Mrs. G Renee was our phenomenal waitress/server. She was attentive, down to earth and had great conversation. Mrs G. gave us a history lesson and delivered one of the best fresh, light, and tasty fried cod sandwiches that we’ve had in a while. Note: Enter through the bar, they will guide you into the indoor seating and patio if you prefer to sit outside. 2 beers, 2 fountain drinks, 2 fish and fries and chicken tenders all about $40.
So this place has been going for over a hundred years. What do they care about reviews... The plain oysters were super fresh and enjoyable despite being served in plastic and that was all. Everything else, from the crab cakes to the bloody Mary was so SALTY, it was barely edible. The coleslaw is a joke. Unfriendly.
For the folks on here who think think these are the best oysters they’ve ever had, I really don’t know what to say to them but your standards must be really REALLY low. One said "better than the Chesapeake" LOL. Not sure how you can call yourself "The Oyster House" and you don't even serve them on the half shell! Absolutely 0 selections of oysters. The only ones they serve are their "shooters" pictured. Abysmal. Took 1 and immediately spit it out into my napkin. We then proceeded to cancel the rest of our apps and ask for the check. I asked the waitress if they were canned and she reassured me they were fresh. BUT why do you serve "fresh" oysters in a plastic ramekin? Our hotel down the street HIGHLY recommended this place but seems Pittsburgh in general needs to up their oyster standards.
Came here for the first time ever on Good Friday to get some seafood and they did not disappoint! The service was SO fast and friendly we were in and out in like 20 minutes! The food was delicious and we loved the atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back!
Met the owner Mrs G and she gave us a tour and a story behind all the pictures on the wall. It's a must stop in Pittsburgh. Very welcoming staff, and the food is delicious
Best oysters in Pittsburgh, hands down. I'd stack them against any I've had along the Chesapeake Bay, as well. Don't let the focused menu turn you away. We watched several groups come in, look at the menu, and leave. Critical mistake. Come in, soak up the ambiance, and have the best oyster platter of your life.Food: 5/5
Wanted to love it… just a divey fish & chips shop. Gruff staff. Prices are low though. The place might appeal to those that like “industrial vibes”.
The menu specifies New England Clam Chowder made fresh daily. It is not. I was brought a nearly room temperature bowl of a white soup that didn't have a shred of clam in it. It was microwaved a bit to make it warmer, but that experience taught me all I need to know about this kitchen.
Great historic dive in Pittsburgh. The fish sandwich is incredible and the fries are the best in the city. As someone else mentioned, expect some menu items to be unavailable on Saturday as their stock of fish and oysters for the week might run low.
1st time eating at the Oyster House. Fish was awesome and the service was great. Our server was personsble, friendly and engaging. Will definitely go back again. I totally recommend this restaurant for the best fish.
